He was never the greatest boxer but he was one hell of a fighter!, he had a massive football like following at his fights.

theres only one Ricky Hatton used to thunder around arenas.

Met him at one of his shows. Lovely bloke who was very open about his demons and everything that come with them.

RIP Ricky <rose>

I met him a good few times through youth boxing /crime prevention projects in Manchester. Really nice lad but even in his top days he had health issues and poor self control. Almost like the Gazza of boxing. Sad day.

Its always the ones that look the happiest on the outside are the saddest on the inside. Im not saying for 1 minute this was suicide, but from the outside looking in we all know this is highly possible

Of course, it’s perfectly normal to think that. He was very open about his struggles with depression.

Im still struggling to comprehend this news. I genuinely feel gutted tonight about this
The rumour that’s circulating is that he hung himself. I wouldn’t take it as gospel but that’s what is being said.

Reports were that a member of the public called it in. I've walked past his house and he has large walls. Unless the gate was open its not likely you can see the ground floor.

Was speaking to a bar owner last night in Los Cristianos who is a neighbour of his when he was over here. Apparently he never really got over his break up with Clare Sweeney. Without going into details, he said that he was told that he had taken his own life. Such a sad way for a well loved person to end. Hopefully now he can be at peace

Some brilliant videos of him on social media from his boxing days

Still really shocked by this. Legend

Knocked me for six this news I have to say. Love my boxing and love Hatton. That performance against Tszyu was truly epic. He really went to war in the ring that night, walked through everything and was turbo charged for 11 rounds. It was sensational, and Tszyu arguably best pound for pound at the time. To retire him on his seat with a round to go wash punishing.

He had this warmth about him I always felt. It wasnt just his roots or the footy fan. It was a genuine warmth for people that came across. He always seemed to have a yes for anything asked.

You always knew what you would get with a Hatton fight. He never left anything in the ring. Heart, Soul, Strength, Determination. Yes we have seen more talented boxers, more classical stylists, but I dare say Ricky won our hearts that bit more because of his personality and his heart.

Rest well Ricky. You will never be forgotten.

The inquest into the death of former boxer Ricky Hatton has been opened and adjourned.

The 46-year-old, who won world titles at light-welterweight and welterweight, was found dead at his home in Hyde on 14 September.

South Manchester Coroner's Court, in Stockport, heard that Hatton was found by his manager Paul Speak.

The court was told by Alison Catlow, of Greater Manchester Police, that Hatton was last seen by his family on 12 September and appeared well.

The following day he did not attend an event as expected.

On 14 September Speak, who was in court to represent the family, attended Hatton's home to pick him up for a flight to Dubai.

Hatton, who was known as The Hitman, was found unresponsive.

Senior coroner Alison Mutch said they are awaiting the final cause of death, but it was indicated as hanging.

No family were in attendance.

A full inquest has been scheduled for 20 March.
