The 2 greatest footballers have now died, Pelé and Maradona. Pelé , the only player to win 3 World Cups. I hope he and Diego are now having a kickabout in heaven.

Well had to come didn't it from the various sources during at at end of world Cup.
I'd hope that a generation will now get to see some documentaries and actual footage in homage to the man as a lot of them are uneducated morons.
being the best meant everything to Pele from many of his comments over the years so here's to some quality tributes that shows the man in his prime.
Hmm, I think Ferenc Puskas might have something to say on that. The first football World Cup superstar![]()

Played in a lesser team so didn't win as much, but he was a huge individual star.

Oh he most definitely was. Although I don't think the term was used in those days he possessed all the attributes that qualify someone for that status. So not a ‘superstar’ then….not in the same way Pele was…Lots of great players like that though; George Best was another…but ask the average 18 year old who they were today and they won’t know….even utd fans![]()
not bad for a guy who just used one leg for standing on .Oh he most definitely was. Although I don't think the term was used in those days he possessed all the attributes that qualify someone for that status.
He won 5 La Liga titles and 3 European cups and scored 625 goals in 629 appearances at club level, 84 in 85 for Hungary.
(I looked it up)
I was referring to his national side not being as gifted as the Brazil ones of Pelé's time (though they weren't bad by any means - royally stuffed England a couple of times).
He was world famous and universally acclaimed as the best in the world at his peak.
He even played for South Liverpool once, so that settles it for me.

I'm not questioning that he was a great player, only that his name is not universally known across the generations like Pele’s was….mind you, everyone knows David Beckham’s name and he wasn’t fit to lace the shoes of any of the aforementioned!
Was reading article on Pele and did make me laugh that claimed some of his World Cup highlights included when he dummied it past the keeper, his effort from half way line and the header against England… first was cleared after a scuffed shot. Second went wide and 3rd was saved.
Not sure if that’s something to be proud of that even misses go down as brilliant skill and legend?
