    A really sad passing. The only time I came across him in the flesh he was as genuine as you would expect him to be.

    Disappointed by the Lee Mottershead piece on the Grand National (or some sub-editor had a field day). The point of it was he called the race on the Thurday (on Sportsnight with Coleman) before and said and 'you come over the last and you are the run in and victory is in sight. Then suddenly you hear the thunder of hooves catching you and you hope that you'll hang on.....'

    And that basically was what happened to him as he came over the last in the lead on Carrickbeg and was agonisingly beaten by Ayala.

    A fine and true man
