He was GLP, I am saying a few words at his wake down in Milton Keynes, I’ve written a poem about him, though I might have to change it, my first attempt was called “ Ben the bin “ a family joke, but as some may not be amused I’m going with “ Jamie Alex Higgins cannon “ my cousin was a well know pool player where he lived and his all time hero was Mr Higgins. Funniest thing you’ll see was him turning up for the match…Jamie not Alex lol
Talking of Alex Higgins, he was a client of mine back in the day, when he was at the top. Anyway one year our office was chasing him around the country trying to get him to sign his tax forms so we could get them filed. I happened to finally find him at some snooker club in **** knows where. This was of course the 80s, pre mobile days. I said “Alex, it’s Alex from XX, we really need you to sign a couple of forms, he heavily slurred back something like what the **** are you talking about. So I repeated myself, he said **** off, and hung up.

I used to work with Higgin’s brother in law. I spent many pleasurable hours listening to stories of his escapades in the 80s.
Former England and Surrey batter Graham Thorpe has died aged 55, the England and Wales Cricket Board has announced.
Thorpe played 100 Tests for England between 1993 and 2005, as well as 82 one-day internationals.
A stylish left-handed batter, he scored 6,744 Test runs for England, including 16 centuries, at an average of 44.66.
‘’There seem to be no appropriate words to describe the deep shock we feel at Graham's death," said an ECB statement.
Thorpe played 100 Tests for England between 1993 and 2005, as well as 82 one-day internationals.

I've just sadly read that Graham Thorpe took his own life after years of suffering anxiety and depression. He made a serious attempt in 2022 and was in ICU for quite a time afterwards.
Sounds like he really suffered.

I’d read he’d struggled with depression many years ago after his marriage broke up.
Looking at past pics of him he’ll always seemed a cheeky Chappie and the life and soul

Pier Luigi 72. Famous for his Italian restaurant on Princes Avenue. Originally from Venice and moved up here on advice from the Cerucci family. He ran a fabulous restaurant and it was never the same after he sold it. Had some memorable nights in there. Remember one a long time ago when a mate rang me midweek and said he'd won the lottery and were going to Pier Luigi's to celebrate, so we went. He ordered all sorts, best wines etc, and this was mid week. When the bill came, and it was colossal, he said are we going 50/50? Cost me a fortune. This area could do with more people like Pier Luigi.
