I think the tributes paid on here say so much about an absolute gentleman.
Black armbands v Liverpool at home please and straight into them, exactly as George would have wanted.
RIP lad. Strength to his family and many friends.
World class squad upstairs but far too many gone recently.

RIP fella, never got to meet him club related (from what I can remember) but met him as he lived about 100 yards from my ex, had a couple of chats with him when he saw me in club colours.

I used to go to dame Dorothy st school in 1968 and passed mr Tennocks ? shop he had a fishing tackle shop in Dundas st, to get the bus home if i remember, and he was a friend of Georges and they started the travel club amazing life George had i have photos of him in the 1970's i think supporters used talk to Mr Tennock about getting to away matches and that's how they started i also remember Kitty cunnigham who always had a *** in her mouth in her corner shop near wearmouth bridge and also 'Hatta matter' oh those were great days as a kid. they have edited *** for some reason or cigarette

What a lovely, warm bloke. Proper lads fan. God bless him.
Hope he gets to enjoy watching us win the big cup from the posh seats .

I remember going into the Supporters shop while we were at Roker Park once. I was looking for the programme from my first visit in 1981 against Villa for both me and my dad and George was present. Such an encyclopedia on all things Sunderland and I could've listened to him for hours waxing lyrical. A massive loss to not just his family but to the Sunderland family also. May he rest in peace

If I couldn't make it to an away game years ago, I used to get me mam to buy the programme from that game for me in the little club shop next to Jacky White's market as she worked in Sunderland. Every single time she would say how smartly dressed George was and how lovely he was. Me mam wasn't easily impressed by people by the way.
