RIP Gary Speed

rip Gary - a true gentleman of the game - just shows that no-one really knows what is going on in other peoples minds - was doing a great job for wales and everything seemed to be going so well for him - i suppose in a few days time the rags will start throwing mud about some hidden secret
 
People used to say it takes more courage to face up to your demons and not let them win, but if you haven't been through what depressives have you don't know where their heads are at. A mate of mr wishi's took his own life a few years ago by stepping out into the road in front of a van. I met this guy twice, he was a nice bloke, and curiously enough he was about the same age as Gary Speed when he did it. None of his friends knew what was going on with him. I remember mr wishi being angry with him over what he'd put the van driver through. I understand the van driver was in turmoil afterwards.

You can't tell someone who's depressed to pull themselves together, but whatever help Gary Speed was getting obviously wasn't working. That's the tragedy of it.

I don't know whether he was dealing with something for a long period of time, or if something happened in the last 24/48 hours of his life that made him take extreme action. It is a selfish act, especially when there is family or other people involved. But unless you are the one suffering it is impossible to understand what is going on inside and I wouldn't wish this sort of thing on anyone.

He was on Football Focus yesterday and I watched it on YouTube just now, a comment on the video made an interesting point about his hands at the start of the video.

There are loads of joke threads on the GC about Gary Speed. I have decided to ignore all future jokes about celebs, time to grow up I think. Who knows what goes on in the lives of these people and who are we to judge.
 
A mate of mine committed suicide about 18 months ago. I just couldn't believe it. I'd known him ever since I moved from Liverpool. When you saw him in the boozer, there wasn't the merest hint that anything was amiss. He was caring for his Dad, who refused to go into a home and it obviously just got to him in the end. RIP Sammy and Gary Speed <ok>
