RIP Sigi Schmid...age 65...of heart failure while waiting for a transplant in Los Angeles. One of America's finest coaches and the winningest in MLS history with the LA Galaxy and Seattle Sounders. SIGI developed many US National team players in his 19 years at UCLA and was widely respected for his knowledge of the game and his influence on U.S. soccer. I met him many times in my 30 years living and coaching in Southern California and will miss him. Gone far too soon.

Slightly OT, but anyone interested in the history of Hessle Road/trawler industry. Go and see Dr Alec Gill's collection of photographs from Hessle Road, circa 1975 to 1981, at Hull University Library, absolutely brilliant pictorial history. Check with Hull Uni first for opening times etc.

I wish I was home to see that, I worked on the fish dock from the early sixties up until 1980 when I moved to GY.

June Whitfield was my mum's favourite radio personality and I remember sitting with mum back in the 50's listening to her in " Take it from Here" which also featured Jimmy Edwards, Dick Bentley and "The Glums". A real funny lady who worked back then with other comedians including Tony Handcock, Benny Hill, Frankie Howard, Morecombe and Wise in radio and TV.

June you brought me so much laughter and gave me so many memories. RIP.

She did a lot, appeared with a lot of greats and was well respected. But to most younger ones she is only known for Absolutely Fabulous. Can remember as a youngster my parents listening to the radio and "Ooohhhh Ron'" making them laugh. She was the nurse in the classic Tony Hancock classicThe Blood Donor.

Was too consumed by my career when Ab Fab came along in the 90's and only watched a couple of early episodes.
