Sad news, was a real hard man footballer. Saw him play a couple of times for Derby under Clough.

Apparently he hated this picture, but he will always be remembered for making Bremner wet himself image.jpg

Remember him from the Cup tie against Derby in 1970 when he deflected the ball into the net to give us a 1-0 win. Rodney was kicked from pillar to post by him that day, all perfectly legal off course......

That's a great picture with Bremner.....

A good old fashioned no nonsense player.......

    RIP

A true "Hard Man" of the football world who will be truly missed. He made that Spurs double team a joy to watch.

My earliest football memory is of the Spurs team completing the double beating Burnley 2-0 in the FA Cup Final 1961, I was about seven at the time and remember watching it on our old black & white telly. Throughout the 60s in particular Mackay was the heartbeat of that great Spurs team along with Jimmy Greaves, the best goalscorer I've seen, what would those two be worth in today's market?

It's a measure of the man and the respect he had in the game that he took over from Clough at Derby and three years later took them to a second League title, they were one of our biggest challengers in 75-76 as defending champions and I still rate our 5-1 win at the Baseball Ground one of our greatest ever team performances.

Football will be a poorer world without Mackay, RIP...

A bit young to have seen him play, but I knew I'd heard the name before. RIP.

Me too. It was a toe poke from Barry Bridges that Dave deflected past the keeper. Everyone went mad. Big Dave just kept walking with chest puffed out, picked the ball out of the net and walked back upfield. A proper player.

This is brilliant tramore! It says that it came off Frank Clarke , but I am sure it was Bridges - the celebration is bridges. What number is Clarke ? I will have to go back to my old programmes. I was right about big Dave though - picked the ball out of the net and got on with it.

    Great stuff.

Nothing new to add to what's already been said above really. A proper old school pro footballer, they don't make them like they used to.

    R.I.P Dave!
