Very sad to hear that - one of those "nearly" horses and a great servant for Willie Mullins. Can't help thinking he was another horse who was "finished" by the RSA though - some of those behind him that day (notably Carruthers and What A Friend) went on to bigger things but Cooldine never won again. Hellish race for a novice, even though he appeared to bolt up.

Absoluterly Oddy - now's not the time to draw comparisons with those race winners but there's no doubt it's a seriously tough race.

Sad that we never got to see more of him though -- looked a fantatsic prospect.

RIP Cooldine. I remember that race vividly, they went off at a ridiculously brutal pace (no doubt thanks to Carruthers), no wonder Cooldine seemed to have won so easily, everything else behind him was knackered!

Very much agreed it does seem to knock the stuffing out of horses. But luckily it seems to have produced some of the best chasers (Gold Cup) in recent memory (Denman, Bob's Worth)
