I really like York, but the place is pretty much unvisitable at weekends now due to the vast volumes of screeching Bradford lasses and chippy tight-trousered Teesside lads getting massively pissed and coked up all day long, before spilling into a train home and talking to each other at 300 decibels.
Been there several times Nice and handy trip and as others have said we often took over the place. Won’t particularly miss the ground itself. But had some fun times there
One of the funniest things I've seen when we played there was a tv detector van on its side, the radar thing on its roof was still rotating! Can't think how it came to be on its side.
You are joking? They're hardly Millwall or Cardiff but they've clashed with our fans on more than one occasion in the past. I don't know which York you've been going to, but they've got some right ****s. I mean, if you have to pull a knife, you're obviously not that scary because it means you can't fight, but it's still not what you wanna see on a warm Summer's afternoon. He might not even have been a fan, he wasn't wearing a shirt, he just happened to be in the crowd as we were walking to the ground. Any road down, I hope the place is razed quickly and the earth salted so nothing can grow.
Been to see City at York many times since a 3-0 defeat back in December 1974, I've seen more trouble in the sales at Matalan on Kingswood. I conclude you must have been extraordinarily unlucky to meet the solitary 'tough' in the village.
Maybe it just wasn't my day, I don't know. I seem to remember a fair bit of trouble between our fans and theirs in the mid 90s.
There were more arrests in 1974 at our game than there were at the previous home game there which was against Man Utd.
The only trouble I ever encountered at a York v City game was finding a pub who'd serve us, seeing the other end of the pitch and avoiding pissing down someone's leg in the gents,
City fans went mental that day, probably the last time when the cops were scared for their own safety, City fans were trying to get in their end before the game finished and a copper let a dog go on City fans and it got a right kicking, on the way back to the station alongside the river at least two motorbikes got chucked in the river and a car got overturned, with some mentalist trying to set in on fire while stood on top of it. Never seen City fans go quite as mad since.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-10676269 Utter rubbish. Don't upset the tourists was the real reason our loyal followers were deemed persona none grarter by the local cunstabulary. I've seen worse trouble in bus station on a Friday night..
I was there and have a distant memory of the local ob treating us like cattle as usual and denying us access to the shortest route away from the stadium. That's all.
