His family said in a statement: "Jack died peacefully on Friday 10 July at the age of 85. He was at home in Northumberland, with his family by his side."
Sad news indeed. Funny that we were only yesterday discussing him and his brother, Bobby. I was dead wrong when I said that he had already died. Just shows, eh? May blessings be upon him.
We were frightened of nobody. Everybody was frightened of us - and it was lovely! It was a great feeling to go somewhere and have people looking at you in awe, them knowing that if they got any result against you, it would be a good result. Lets hope the new boys can emulate Big Jack. please log in to view this image
RIP Big Jack. There is something perverse that in what could be one of the best years in our clubs history has turned onto one of the saddest. Marching on together.
I can't believe it, I woke up to be told by my sons that he had died. I know we all die, but it's still a shock.
Sad news. Awful few months for the old boys. Proper old school character, bossy, stubborn, always right but at the same time something lovable about him. Brian Clough thought he was the best defender in Europe which considering his views on Leeds was pretty high praise. I loved him as manager forgetting his team and reading it off fag packets, napkins etc. They don’t make them like that any more, more’s the pity RIP big man We better bloody get promoted and give these guys the send off they deserve.
