Totally forgot he was a scout at City.
He did a great job at York, particularly in the early to mid 90s: very close to promotion to tier 2, good cup runs - with a team built with very limited resources. I had a lot of respect for him as a manager.

Founder of high street jewellery shop, Hugh Rice, has died aged 74, the company has said.
Hugh will forever be proudly remembered as the man who founded the jewellery store, Hugh Rice the Jewellers. He began his career as an apprentice at Carmichael's department store on George Street learning the tricks of the trade. Then, with the help of a £200 bank loan, he set up the very first Hugh Rice the Jewellers store in a small basement on George Street.
Hugh will forever be proudly remembered as the man who founded the jewellery store, Hugh Rice the Jewellers. He began his career as an apprentice at Carmichael's department store on George Street learning the tricks of the trade. Then, with the help of a £200 bank loan, he set up the very first Hugh Rice the Jewellers store in a small basement on George Street.
My stepfather ran a jewellery shop in town in the 70’s and used Hugh Rice for all the repairs. I worked Saturdays and had to go to Hugh’s basement many times to take and pick stuff up. He was a great guy, very focussed and dedicated, and ultimately very successful. Very sad that another name from my past is no longer with us.
