Agnes Keleti, the world's oldest Olympic champion, has died at the age of 103 it has been announced.

Keleti had been born as Agnes Klein in Budapest in 1921 and took up gymnastics at the age of four.

She joined the VAC Sports Club, the only Jewish club in Budapest, and went on to claim the national title as a 16-year-old.

Her Olympic debut was delayed due to the cancellation of the 1940 and 1944 Games due to the Second World War.

Keleti had been expelled from her gymnastics team in 1941 due to her Jewish ancestry.

She assumed a false identity and worked as a maid during the war, with Keleti, her mother and sister surviving the Holocaust with the help of Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg.

Keleti's father and other relatives, however, died at the Auschwitz concentration camp.

Peacefully passed away on 12th December 2024 at his home in Treboeth, Swansea
surrounded by his family, Vic.
Dearly loved husband of Julie,
loving dad of Dean and Paula and step-dad of Jamie and his wife Steph,
loved father-in-law of Sarah and David,
proud grandad of all his grandchildren.
Vic will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Peter Brown, the former Scotland rugby captain who was renowned as one of the great characters of the Scottish game, has died at the age of 83. He had been battling cancer for some time, but it is understood he also suffered a fall a few days ago.

Peter Currie Brown, affectionately known throughout the sport as ‘PC’, won 27 caps for Scotland, ten of them as captain, between 1964 and 1973. A strapping forward who could play at lock or No 8, he was also a gifted goalkicker, a talent most memorably displayed with the last-minute conversion of a try by Chris Reathat gave Scotland a 16-15 victory over England at Twickenham in 1971.

Brown, who was born and raised in Troon, wasa member of one of Scotland’s great sporting dynasties. His father, Jock, was a goalkeeper with Clyde and Hibernian who won one cap for Scotland. His lock-forward brother Gordon, better known as Broon frae Troon, won 30 caps for Scotland and played eight Tests for the British & Irish Lions. His uncle, Jim Brown, emigrated to the USA and represented his adopted country in the 1930 soccer World Cup.

Both PC and Gordon were excellent after dinner speakers - fortunate to have heard both speak and seen both play.

Sad news. PC was an unlikely goal kicker. He had a no nonsense approach to kicking. He used to make a small hole with his heel then walk straight back and kick the ball, usually with great success.
He played in that epic game at Murrayfield in 1971 when John Taylor won the match for Wales with the last kick off the game.
As Taff said he was an entertaining speaker and he came to one of our sales conferences and he gave an entertaining talk on sales closing techniques. He was successful in business and was chairman of the Scottish Building Society for about 10 years. RIP PC <rose>

When Gordon spoke at Paul Thorburn’s Testimonial Dinner, one of his anecdotes involved his brother Peter.

Gordon said that he popped in to see him and Peter asked ‘Have you heard the good news? I’ve been selected for Scotland!’

‘Great!’ said Gordon ‘Who’s been dropped?’

Didn’t know that about PC being Chair of Scottish BS.

It’s strange that there’s only 1 Building Society in Scotland yet there are 3 in Wales: Principality, Monmouthshire and Swansea <cheers>
 
We are very sad to learn that actress Diane Langton, who played June Snell in Only Fools and Horses, has died. She was 77.

Our thoughts are with her husband Derek and her family and friends.

Diane also appeared in EastEnders as Bev Williams and her other work included episodes of The Bill and Heartbeat. More recently she starred in Hollyoaks as Marlena 'Nana' McQueen.

Swansea City is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the club’s former vice-chairman Glyn Hammond.

Glyn worked closely with chairman Doug Sharpe during a challenging period for the club from the mid-1980s into the 1990s.

He played an important role in helping secure the survival of the club, after a High Court winding up order in late 1985 saw the gates at the Vetch Field padlocked.

Glyn, an accountant by trade, was among those to work tirelessly in a fundraising effort to keep the Swans afloat, and the winding up order was ultimately lifted in July 1986.

The Swans would recover from those dark days and go on to secure promotion from the fourth tier in 1988, and six years later Autoglass Trophy success would follow on a first visit to Wembley.

Everyone at Swansea City sends Glyn’s family and friends our sincerest condolences at this sad time.
