Got to make people do community service or something to earn their benefit money. We would soon see who thinks jobs are beneath them when they pay more and don't involve picking up litter or painting over graffiti.
Eric, I think that depends upon how you define what the economy can and cannot sustain. If we continue to cling to the notions of ever increasing GDP, Efficiency (particularly cost efficiencies) over-ruleing Effectiveness and the dedication to short-term financial gain then the answer is that the economy will be able to sustain less and less. Look at the comments from the money markets - we have to CUT wages, Slash spending on Social Welfare, Health and Education merely to remain competitive!! It's not the spending that's wrong it's the slavish dedication to globalisation and the predominance of financial return. Money has to be put back into its box as the mere oil of commercial activity and not the driver. With the best will in the world we cannot make all of our young people super intelligent (and that has nothing to do with the effects of immigration). Yet our leaders say we have to move from a productive economy to an inteligence/high value development model. Even if we could we would end up with 80% of the population unemplyed! It does not make sense to continue to allow China and India to grow merely because the can take advantage of low wage costs. Neither have any technological advantage over goods produced here - they employ technologies and systems developed here and there is nothing inately Chinese or Indian about them. So we should put our people back to work producing what we need. We didn't stop producing because we couldn't do it as well. We stopped producing for one reason only - cost efficiency. Well those short term gains have wrecked not only the economy but also badly damaged the society which it is supposed to serve. So re-introduce tarrifs. If the Chinese can produce a better product then so be it but let;'s stop this buy Chinese merely because it is cheap!! I said yesterday we need simple answers to big questions and not the simplistic responses our leaders are giving us.
Three people in my area have been hit by a vehicle related to the rioting, one I knew quite well and saw just a few days ago. All of them have passed. If anyone who was taking part in the rioting reads this, understand this: Your killing innocent people.
Thanks. They were protecting their community - Something the police should have been doing. I wrote this in the Anfield Arms Pub Thread: Its time something was done about this.
Something should be done very true Jatt. What can be done though? I so wish there were simple answers, unfortunately there isn't.
Why did they have 16,000 police officers in the capital, yet ignore the second city when it was clear that things were going to escalate? 20 years old, so young. I tried to make excuses for the rioters, now I think they're all scum.
Radical as it may sound, this country could do with a Guerrilla Vigilante group to tackle all the scum in this country.
Thanks Stevie. Ze, well some of the looters actually got a good beating near Aston. The police 'lost control' and the locals kicked in to the looters. Good on them.
They should of brought in the army then. They knew someone was going to get hurt whilst they 'contained' looters, why risk it?
Damn right, was watching bbc news 24 last night and one of the policeman started hitting this one guy cos he wouldn't take his face mask off. I was actually screaming 'GO ON' as if Luis was through on goal!
Do 2 wrongs make a right? That would increase the mayhem 10 fold - the country would turn into a proper war-zone. It's a tough one - but tackling anarchy with anarchy wont work. Guaranteed. Hopefully some kind of solution will be agreed at some point.
I saw the exact same clip your on about and felt the same way. Unfortunately this is beyond 'tactics'. They really do need to feel the full force of the law. Deploy as many police officers and soliders as possible. Use water cannons, plastic and real bullets. Start fighting back and arresting. These youths need to be taught a lesson now
I heard that a group of Millwall boys went on the streets last night and blocked off all their territory to stop the riots going off. Judging by the crew that turned up, I certainly wouldn’t go anywhere near them!!!
Lil_Jatt. So sorry to hear of your loss mate. These ****ers must be put in their place once and for all. How we achieve this is up for debate, but something or somebody needs to get inside their heads.
