I can imagine mate. The Barca defeat in Rome still rankles now. The problem is that I actually work 5-10 minutes from OT so driving past everyday during the summer of 2009 meant I couldn't even forget about it over the close season.
So it should, it was the worst ever performance by a British team in a European final. But painful none the less
I'd imagine it would be more painful to be beaten by your closest domestic rivals, with your hero, "Mr Chelsea", somehow snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. As for the worst performance by a British team in a European final, Middlesbrough's 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Sevilla in the UEFA Cup final 5 years ago was much worse
And yet we still got more possession, against the best passing team in the world, than Chelsea managed in the 2007/08 final...
Still the worst ever performance in a European final though I think they stopped giving kudos for possession?
Err, Sevilla 4-0 Middlesborough? We had more chances than Barca as well. I'd be interested to know on what objective criteria your assessment is based.
**** off you were totally dominated and outclassed for the whole game, don't search for solace in trivialities you were humped royally. A total and utter embarrassment to the country.
Lol, you sound very pissed off about it. Wondering what might have been had Chelsea been good enough to get past Barca over two legs?
We got beat comfortably. 2-0 reflected the comparative performances. It's not like Barca missed a shed-load of chances, or United created nothing. Barca controlled play, but they do that in every game they play. Do you still think it's worse than the Sevilla/Boro game? Or had you forgotten that one in your desperate need to denigrate United? Anyway, how did those penalty misses from Terry and Anelka feel? Still hurt now don't they?* Particularly as you've got no closer to winning the ultimate prize. No wonder you despise United so much, I'd hate a team too if they'd deprived my team of entering the history books. Just think if Drogba hadn't been sent off eh.... * please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
Just noticed this - so United were representing England were they? I take it that means you were cheering Ronaldo and co on then? No? Didn't think so. So either you're a hypocrite, or not very patriotic - which is it?
I think he's just pissed off they didn't have the quality to get past Barca in the semi final. Every time he thinks about the 2009 final he has to scream "IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN US" into a pillow for an hour to calm down.
Ginger's not bad really, but he has alot of bitterness. Bitterness is the path to the dark side. Bitterness leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.
Of course they were representing England, unless you think Manchester is in Surrey? Although that is quite possible I suppose We had the quality but didn't have the referee but these things happen and our time will come very soon no doubts But while you were busy with the Carling Cup we went on to win the double, I do so hope you enjoyed your parade too!
So were you hoping they beat Barcelona in the final then? Ironically enough, at the start of last season we'd won four domestic doubles in our history, but only three Carling Cups. So winning the Carling Cup was actually of greater historical significance to us. I think we deserved a parade for that one
No, I wanted Barcelona to win despite cheating us of the opportunity of revenge but not for the reasons that you think. I always like to see the best team win but as you know in cup games anything can happen? As far as the UCL went that year Chelsea & Barcelona were the two best teams and the winner was always coming from that semi final tie.
You can practically feel the bitterness oozing from every pore...get that pillow out and fill yer lungs...
Hang on, that Manchester in Surrey comment doesn't make sense at all. Even if M/cr was in Surrey (quite why it would be I'm not sure), it would still be in England. Come on Ginge, you can do better than this! We don't do parades for Carling Cups. We didn't even do one last time we won the Champions League (remember that? If not scroll up a bit and the pics of JT and Le Sulk will refresh your memory) even though it was part of a domestic and European double (yes that is possible Ginge, you can do well in both ). We save the parade for when we really create history (yes, I know you may not be familiar with that concept having watched the biggest team in England win everything you've ever won before your lot) ie the treble of 1999. Chelsea were the second best team in Europe that year? Despite finishing third in the league in 2008/9??? That sounds like scouse logic to me - disappointing coming from you Ginger. I thought you were better than that
