‘IF’ this is true someone needs to give Arry and Beard a swift kick in the nuts

Poor form to put a statement like this up though with no details of source or credibility

It's funny how those who like to moan and bring up every negative, will grasp at everything the press say like it was fact. Yet if anyone tries to be positive about something and use what the press say, those same people will go mad saying it's just the press talking bollocks. Can't have it both ways!

Why people can't wait and see how things pan out before criticising I don't know. Yes we had some old crocks that didn't work out, but we also had Ryan Nelsen, why can't people look at him as the example rather than the negative signings? You will look a right prat if Rio turns into another signing of the Nelsen ilk.

I think Rio could be a great signing for 1-2 years, he knows he wont be able to play every game so will happily sit on the bench for some games and can help train and settle another young centre back. Youth and experience is the only way, and the old players we have are probably going to be moving on, so 1-2 signings of experienced players doesn't make them bad signings. If it doesn't work out then by all means moan, but just wait and see for gods sake before moaning.

Please can someone put up a Rio poll with a simple yes please or no thanks option. I would do this myself but being I'm a bit simple I'm not sure how.

Nelsen, a positive? The bloke ditched us after 6 months as he had no cartilage left in his knees.
    That's not a positive.

Some have been saying we need experience, but i'm sure i read that our squad has more PL caps than all bar 1 of the sides currently in the top flight. I'm not sure we need any more experience!
Ferdinand would be 35 for the first ten games of the season, and 36 for the remaining twenty eight (74%).

    Absolutely spot on.
There's a lot of anti-Man Utd stuff going on here I suspect.
Even now, Ferdinand is far and away better than any of our CBs and a one year deal seems perfect.

What are some of you on?

Is that the only requirement of a signing though, that they be better than what we've got? There are literally thousands of players in every position better than all of ours. But many of them wouldn't be appropriate for other reasons.

On paper, SWP, Park, Cesar, and Granero were better than what we had

(although imo Ferdinand isn't better than Onouha anymore, he's too crocked to be as useful)

IMO we MUST stay up next season. Stay up and then plan for the future. Consolidate.
Ned is quick and I like him a lot, but Ferdinand is in a different class bracket. Superb on the ball and still a decent CB imo. Nothing like as good as he was of course, but then he was one of the best CBs around at his peak.
    I'd play him alongside Ned.

All of which is true, but perhaps it's my imagination, but the back four seemed more solid after Redknapp took over, right through until the end of January 2013 when Nelsen left and Samba arrived.

It was. We did all right the first 2 months after he came - Arry tightened us up and things looked promising. And then it went to sh*te

Yep. Does that mean every signing of an older player is going to be the same?

Samba was a shell of the player he was, Rio is six years older!

We should aim to stay up next season without employing a short term strategy though, which is what signing Rio would be? It's no good avoiding relegation then having to tear the squad up again. He wouldn't hang around either if the unspeakable happened and we got relegated again

Because we get more crocks than value signings; probably 3:1 of crocks to value.

Plus we have enough experience at the back, we need speed and energy, and for players to learn off Hill & Dunne.

Plus with the experience of Green, isnt that enough experience ?

It's a difficult balancing act though isn't it? I think we need to do a bit of both tbh, buy some for the short term and some for the near to medium future.
