Not Spurs related I know but the board seems quiet today and imo this is newsworthy. ------------------ http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-27770266 British comedian and actor Rik Mayall has died aged 56, according to his manager. He played the obnoxious, poetry-writing anarchist Rick in The Young Ones alongside his friend, Adrian Edmonson. The duo later went on to star in Bottom and he was also known for appearances in shows including Blackadder and The New Statesman. He was left seriously ill after a quad bike accident in 1998 which left him in a coma for several days.
and Jim ****ing davidson still pollutes the air we breathe! RIP to someone who made me laugh a lot as a young teen
Another comic genius gone too soon. I spent hours watching repeats of Bottom and The Young One's growing up. Really sad and unexpected.
My kids used to love 'The Young Ones' which I thought was a load of rubbish but the more I saw it the more it grew on me and I ended up loving it too, especially the 'University Challenge' episode. RIP Rick x
Ugh, the BNP and Britain First didn't take long to latch onto Mayall's death to try and spread their **** through social media. Just goes to show even the lowest form of scum can sink even lower.
Absolutely gutted he has died. I was a huge fan. He was a comedy genius and by all accounts a lovely bloke. R.I.P Rik you will be missed.
Sad news, indeed. I love all his stuff, and particularly his appearances as Lord Flashheart in Blackadder. His appearance in Blackadder Goes Forth, with his mate, Ade Edmondson, is my favourite of the lot.
I loved the Young Ones even though at the time a lot of it was lost on me. The University Challenge episode was definitely one of the best
People forget how different The Youngs Ones was - up against the likes of Terry and June. There was Rising Damp and Steptoe that had broken the mould, but nothing that targetted younger audiences so completely. He seemed a strange man, but a great comedy actor. I remember him first as the Black country poet - Kevin Turvey. Very funny.
Use his name and image, despite Mayall being on the other end of the political spectrum, because doing so will have their pages trending on social media. The fact both groups used the exact same image and text goes a long way to disprove any notion they are separate entities, too.
I think Flashheart as one of the best comedic anarchic characters that has ever been created, if not the best. During Blackadder 2 I literally fell off my seat laughing. RIP. Also a little bit of me has gone. The "Vim" in my name comes from Mayall's character in Bad News, who called himself Vim but his "real" name was Alan.
I thought he was a bit irritating in The Young Ones, but very funny as Kevin Turvey. I still remember: (in a Brummie accent) "What do you say to a man with no arms and no legs when you want to know the time?" "Have you got the time on you, cock?" R.I.P.
