To be honest at 16 but having been at sunderland pretty much all of his mature life, he may well "support" both clubs. I don't think "supporting" is the same for kids that are attached to clubs in the same way they would be to a normal 16 year old.

either way, if he's happy to tell the press he's a sunderland supporter then its enough to not see him as a "massive newcastle fan"
Your support for a club comes from your childhood and usually your family and going to games and being indoctrinated into a club. But Rigg has been in our Academy for years, knows all the players well, has probably not been to St James for ages and is part of things here. Carragher was an Evertonian as a kid so there's every chance Rigg is red and white.

Reports around that he’s likely to leave in summer. All looks like conjecture though and no source.

All stemming from one twitter account that is as accurate as Wearside Whispers. Got zero concerns. If he goes to Saudi FC he'll get lost in the u21 system. He and his parents know this. There will be plenty time for "big" moves when he's older. For ow he's perfectly suited to being here

I do completely agree with you however the caveat is they've given loads of game time to that Miley kid. Much more than Rigg's got here. And Miley is only 13 months older than Rigg. So they could fairly convincingly say "you're just a year behind Miley so will get Premier League and European game time next season".

The counter to that is that theyre unlikely to play both and so Rigg's pathway might be blocked there by Miley, whereas its likely opened here by Neil leaving. So there's definite counter arguments. I'm just saying we shouldn't just assume he'd not go to Newcastle due to being stuck in reserves.

He had the chance to join the scum in the summer. He turned that down. Why would things suddenly change because some Twitter Whopper says so?

Just hope the lad has some degree of loyalty and signs with us initially. He can go wherever he wants after that, and both will make money.

Bart

PS hope he doesn’t go to the CRAAS tho <laugh>

I'm not saying it would - just saying that its not a given that if he did go to EPL clubs that he'd be rotting in the reserves, is all.

I think he should, and hope he does, stay.

Ah right. Qualifies the fact at least. Hopefully he’ll realise the error of his ways!

Doesn’t bother me mind, but the draw of your supported club could be massive, even if he’d probably play 12 minutes every 3 months for them!
Doesn’t bother me in the slightest. He tries his hardest when playing for Sunderland and that’s all that matters to me. I was always fond of Lee Clark for that same reason.

I know for a fact he and as importantly his family are happy with his development here, and that atm he’s staying. However, as any of us would, for either ourselves or our kids, if an offer of massive money, which would set you up for life, came along, who knows what would happen and when.

that's not true, hes very happy here,
Yep. He was told he’d be in and out the team this season and then next season, he’ll be seen as a genuine first team player, if he keeps progressing, which he has.

Would have been a good game for him. He could have shown some older players what desire to win looks like.
<laugh> I know they’re all older than him but we’ve got a very young team overall. A bit too inexperienced for my liking.
