Appleton is manager of Oxford United and Kean is manager of Brunei DPMM, who he's got to the top of the league with a few games remaining(he also turned down an offer to be Mourinho's No.2).
Karl Oyston very nearly blew the whistle on bungs in football a few years ago. He said the game was been ruined by corrupt agents and that underhand financial practices are commonplace. The club's refusal to deal with some agents and pay their fees, whether legal or not, is at the core of their problem. So, are they making a stand or using this as an excuse to pocket the parachute payments ?
Ye I read an interesting article about Oyston. He wont pay transfer fees and, I think, only gives one year contracts. He refuses to put the club in debt and lets face it what were their crowds even in the Premier League?? 12-14 thousand i think? He said every year he allows his coach to pick who he wants to a budget and lets them coach them how he wants. If he actually put some money into an academy I dont think the fans can have owt to complain about really, cos they just cant be paying top dollar for players. I'll see if i can dig the article out.
http://www.theguardian.com/sport/da...12/mar/06/blackpool-karl-oyston-players-wages Its from 2012 but he raises some interesting points and I agree with him about players salaries. Its ****ing obscene the wages they are getting. "Famously determined to keep players' wages below gigantic, and not pay agents if he can help it, Karl Oyston says he refused to spend Blackpool's Premier League bonanza on players' wages in an effort to stay up. Blackpool did sign the striker James Beattie and midfielder Andy Reid in January 2011 and Oyston appears disappointed with the impact they made in return for the wages they commanded. "I am stubborn, I just won't blow the club's money, so we had a big cash surplus," he argues. "If I had spent the £11m on players' wages, nobody would be complaining, but that money would be gone to Ferrari dealers and whatever else players spend it on. So many clubs have fallen into financial trouble by paying players too much – I don't see a massive queue of ex-Portsmouth players lining up at Fratton Park to help Portsmouth now." That training ground and youth set up isnt done still and doesnt look like it ever will be at this rate.
If I remember rightly he paid something in the region of £11million into one of his old mans companies. Consultancy fees or some other reason.
