Rangers haven't been found to do anything illegal.

HMRC decided to go after companies who use/used EBT's.

HMRC has a long history of going after companies when they think they might get away with it.

I'll give you an example. At the turn of the century HMRC went after IT contractors. It became known as IR35 (google it). IT contractors, such as myself at the time, were suddenly told that even though they were limited companies that operated within company law that their entire company earnings were subject to PAYE and NIC as if the company itself was an employee of, err, itself.

...basically HMRC trying it on. At the time we were accused of being tax avoiders even though we were paying the appropriate taxes at employee and company level.

HMRC just saw an opportunity to bend their own rules to try to steal money from IT contractors and were pretty successful at it too.

Similarly, they decided to go after EBT's. And now that they won the ruling against Rangers they'll go after every other company that did or is operating EBT's.

Next week, next month, next year, HMRC will go after something/somebody else. It's how they operate. The ****ers set up tax law and then try to change the rules after the fact when they think they can smell an opportunity.

Tax and company law is complicated. HMRC don't get it right. When they spot something they consider to be avoidance/evasion they go after it.

We can only go on the latest ruling, which has found Rangers' use of EBTs to be illegal. As I explained - what seems like many moons ago - the side letters is what made them illegal, now, then and always. They were a bolt-on added by Murray to Baxendale- Walker's RBT scheme and they were the factor which swung the Judge's decisions and clearly showed that the monies paid were not loans (Normal EBT practice) but part of an employee's pay packet.

"Lord Drummond Young continued: “It seems to us to be self-evident that the obligations in the side-letter were part of the employee’s employment package, and provided him with additional remuneration. They were negotiated as part of the total employment package…Once it is accepted that the bonus payments represented consideration for a footballer’s services qua employee, it inevitably follows that those payments represented emoluments or earnings of the footballer in question".

    THE NEVERENDING STORY
    written by Morethanaclub

Once again those that have a hatred of The Rangers have emerged from under their rocks to have their vitriolic rants about the use of EBTs and how they gave an unfair sporting advantage on the field of play.

YES The Rangers used the loophole in tax laws to use this system as did many others, that has never been denied by the club. Did it allow The Rangers to attract a better calibre of player with the promise of using this system? It is possible that is the case although it can never be proven as a definitive fact, but as Chairman Dave King said in his statement yesterday even if those that did sign had decided to go elsewhere players of the same ability would have signed for the club.

For years now the club has been accused of cheating by using EBTs to entice players to sign…….WRONG!!!!!What the club did in fact do was BEAT the tax system just as they beat their opponents on the field of play. BOTH were done perfectly fairly and legitimately as the laws stood at the time.

11 v11 on the park and using tax law to its advantage off it. The accusations of financial doping to gain a SPORTING advantage have flown about for years without one iota of real substance……..more akin to sour grapes because the rest didn’t take full advantage of the perfectly LEGAL EBT system of the time.

On the financial doping subject let’s have a look at our rivals across the city who have had preferential rates afforded to them on loans and overdraft from Co-operative Bank. Did this allow THEM to gain SPORTING advantage on the park because these preferential rates allowed them to offer players better contracts than they could have done without the preferential rates? Once again it falls into the quite possibly category without definitive proof. Is it a form of financial doping? ……you make your own mind up.

Let’s forget the financial stuff because if we are honest none of the title stripping nonsense has anything to do with what finances were available to one or the other. In this small minded country being second is being last and therein lies the whole issue. THE most successful football club in the WORLD has its home in the south side of Glasgow the rest can’t handle being forever in the shadow of aclub from their own country. If it was Barcelona,Real Madrid, Bayern Munich or even another UK club like Arsenal or Manchester United they would rest easy but their parochial attitude won’t allow them to give respect to one of their own member clubs achievements in WORLD football. I fully expect my great grandchildren will be arguing about EBTs and alleged cheating because our detractors just can’t accept they will always be what they are ………..second best.

Even although they did their best to kill us and as usual FAILED I expect the vitriolic attacks to continue. Why?????…………Because it’s ALL about The Rangers.

    THE Neverending Story.

I trust it has been noticed that I have made no call for anything to be stripped, nor any punishments handed down.

Nothing will happen and as far as I'm aware the only people calling for punishments and trophy stripping are the fans, as if they have any power.

Aye, by threatening to boycott games. Is there an appetite for that this time? I don't know personally.

TBH I care not a jot about titles or the stripping there of. Baubles is all they are. As long as there is a team on the park and the club is being run in the right manner that's all that matters.

Dave King can go take a **** to himself. His grandstanding is ****ing embarrassing and only serves to get peoples backs up. Of course the red hand brigade love it. No surrender and all that ****e.

Much the same with the KDS mob screaming about financial doping whilst completely ignoring their own club and ex players and directors openly using tax evading measures. Pure hypocrisy.

In the case popularly known as 'Dev - WUM or ****wit?' the Court of Appeal has upheld its original decision that he is, indeed, a ****wit.

Yet I'm not the one claiming Celtic's tax affairs were "The same" as Rangers. Go figger.

Henrik having a testimonial inserted into his contract seems to have given him a boost, which in Teddie land is a sporting advantage which stopped 10 in a row.
