As ridiculously expensive as movies are to see these days, football matches are twice the price at least. Usually for the worse seats as well.

I listened to both sides of the coin on talksport this morning on the way to work. I think both sides have fair points, and ultimately I fall on the side of, if Man Utd are stupid enough to pay someone that much money, then that's their own problem... But the most interesting points were made by a sports journalist, who pointed out that higher wages are in direct correlation with a lack of competition within leagues, at the top of the tables, anyway (though he conceded this year has been an anomaly), and that the middle-class have hijacked the "people's game". While the latter was more of a personal barb than anything to do with the topic at hand, both ring sadly true.

Ultimately, the supporters don't actually pay a footballer's wages, at all. The revenue from bums on seats is tiny compared with merchandising and advertising links around the world, and infinitesimal compared with the TV money.

Yes, but if there are no bums on seats it don't look good on TV or encourage players to play in empty grounds.

I think you're overestimating the general attractiveness of the average stadium full of fans <laugh>

The average salary in the UK is around £26500, a lot earn less, a lot earn more, do I care about Rooney's pay deal, no, do I care about earning the average salary or more, yes.

For me no player is worth this amount of money but if Manchester Utd are so desperate to hold on to him, who can blame him. If your boss offered you a huge pay rise you would take it.

Of course not, I'd say I wanted to be on the minimum wage just like the other guys.

If you think Rooney is overpaid take a look at Bardsley down the road.He should be paying them.Infact we are the only ones who should be paying him as he has gifted us 6 points so far this year.
