I think the big problem for England, is, they have never found a replacement for Alan Shearer, the way RL took his goal reminded me of Shearer, like Shiny said, pity he's not a few years younger, but saying that, i still think he's got a few of the bench games for England, like pirate said, its not about age its about doing all the right things when your on the pitch.
Full respect to Lambo what a dream first touch of the ball and in the onion bag. dreams are there England are a second rate football team, nothing like the 60s/70s,80s,90s.
It may just be the juxtapositioning of the two comments, but I was making no link between Lambert and Rovers.
Ricky Lambert has proved beyond doubt that he could and did progress beyond where he was when GJ looked at him at Bristol Rovers he looks altogether a fitter player than he did then. GJ looked and thought he is too unfit and before he can be got fit enough he will have suffered a load of abuse because of his gas connections so decided not to try for him, I vaguely remember GJ talking about strikers he hadn't signed that he wished he had. If he stays fit and concentrated then Ashton Gate has a player that could play in the Premier League no sorry we have two Jay E Thomas has only ever lacked application to go with his undoubted skills and if Sean can instill that into him he will either drag the club kicking and screaming into the Premiership or be off to a club that is already there. We have another potential Premiership player, Blue square premiership that is because unless LF is taken out of the shooting gallery he will never recover from this massive trough he is now in. Wynter already looks to be at least a league above where he is at the moment and Cunningham and Moloney were not out of place in the Championship so we have plenty of potential down at the Gate as well.
**** me, couldn't make it up. Look at all these ****head ****s crying about a Gas legend scoring for England, then saying we deserve no credit for it We deserve a little credit for making Lambert the player he is. Afterall, if it wasn't for the gas, I doubt he would have been recognised by Southampton! We helped turn him into a prolific striker. Don't cry about it Massive just because you haven't created a decent striker in a ****ing millennium, doesn't mean you can hijack our achievement of having another player go onto bigger and better things
Someone on our forum posted this, and it is 100% correct Who is this muppet Philip Moore of Fishponds who says Rovers fans are deluded if they think Rovers made him and he's a Gashead? ok the guy is a Ted but does he really think we believe that crap? For me Rickie is so well loved at Rovers because he was so content to stay at Rovers despite having a PL dream. He told me himself at a shirt sponsor event that he was living the dream at Rovers and was happy to stay here indefinitely unless a big club came in. It's this self-effacing manner that sets Rickie apart from most other players on the rise. If his agent was plugging away he kept it low profile. We all know he's no gashead. He's a Liverpool fan actually, although he does retain good memories and strong friendships from his time in Bristol. Rovers perhaps did help his career a bit, Trolls built a side around him and he rewarded Trolls and Rovers ultimately with promotion. I don't think it's a coincidence that Rovers were relegated soon after he left in a way. So pull your head out of your rectum and accept that us Gasheads are simply enjoying the ride with a decent, honest, likeable pro.
"was happy to stay here indefinitely unless a big club came in" He left you for a club that at the time was in the same league and on minus points
Doesn;t matter where they are, they are a far bigger club than us, and the **** put together you fool
Stop grasping at straws you bell end.. it was a mismatch and he was never gonna play for you for very long, you were but a tumbleweed in his career, he now has to live with the ignominy of having put your shirt on. Stop getting so angry about it. Cream rises to the top. you're the **** at bottom..
oh well. never mind. i dont see the issue to be honest and dont understand what others have to say about what we gasheads feel about lambert. gasheads have witnessed great things from lambert on a regular basis. gasheads have heard lambert praise rovers and the gas faithful numerous times when he was a rovers player and a saints player. gasheads have seen and heard lambert say that he would never join city. make me laugh when some city fans think that they had a chance in signing him! lambert has scored some crucial goals like against city, the goal that got rovers into the play offs in the 86th min away at hartlepool, scored in the play offs. scored in the fa cup run that got us to the quarter finals. he has also shown a lot of time for his followers and i have personally had a few chats with him when he was with rovers. he is just a down to earth great guy who deserves what he is getting. it is great to see lambert get praise from city fans too who can see what he has achieved even though he has rovers connections. fair shout to these reds. these are the same decent reds who have praised the likes of holloway too for what he has done. as us gasheads have seen him grow from what he was when we signed lambert (a midfielder). we turned him into a striker and a goal machine (eventhough overweight and not exactly fit). his goals with us got him recognised. if we kept him as a midfielder he wouldnt be where he is now. he wouldnt have signed for the saints or experienced championship/prem/international football. therefore we should get some credit. but a massive amount of credit should go to the saints as they finished the job off that we started. they got him fitter and thinner and improved him further. which as a result to got him where is is now. and of course credit to lambert for never giving up on his dream. the team he supports is liverpool and it would be great to see him fulfill his dream to play for them which i doubt will happen as settled in southampton. i dont understand why some dont see the relationship rovers fans and lambert have with each other and why these dont get why we want the best for lambert and are proud of him. i read that post article and someone said in the comments that they liken lambert with scotty murray that lambert is to rovers what murray is to city. its not a case of lambert has left and is forgotten. that is what happened when andrew cole left city. there is a relationship between murray and city which is the same as rovers and lambert. oh well i doubt he will get another chance. most likely end up like nugent. hodgson has his favourites who will be above lambert in the pecking order and would be back from injury before the next england game so will get put ahead of lambert. lambert is the sort of person who would be just grateful that he had a chance and did his best.
