Didn't realize how sparse we are in midfield with the selections of Barkley & Townsend.
Considering how poor Barkley played in the u20 World Cup it seems a knee jerk selection. What's up with Leon Osman or Scott Parker?

No way are Osman and Parker better than Barkley and Townsend.

Agreed. I'm actually really happy that Hodgson has called up some young different faces based on form for once.

It's only Moldova for god sake, why not give them a taste of the international scene.

Osman is a very good player. Criminally underrated by many football fans.

Boruc is in the Poland squad again and pretty solidly number 1 now given Sczcesny's...well yeah. If they beat Ukraine and Montenegro then it could send up a tasty England-Poland qualification decider at Wembley.

What is a Roy Hodgson World Cup Qualifyer nod..? What's the difference between one of those and an ordinary nod..?

By the way, while I'm at it, why does a manager hail a player..? Sporting headlines are so odd. No doubt Mourinho eyes Rooney for his side. He doesn't actually want him, he'll only hail him and eye him. Definitely odd. Don't learn these clichés -DTLW. Invent some new tricks.

They're all short words that fit into headlines.

I read earlier that it's always safe to use the phrase "SAS on standby" in news because they're always on standby, so expect to see lots of headlines saying they're on standby for Syria as if that actually means something <laugh>

Certainly not international standard though. To play in midfield for England with no height, strength or pace you have to be technically very special, which Osman isn't. Scholes is the last i can think of who got away with it.

He is getting on a bit, but he could do a job. I'd rather have other players, but I do feel he's undervalued as a player.

He's nine months older than Lambert.

I also rate Osman. He's played well (and scored goals) in big games for years. Barkley did well against Norwich.

Perhaps not, I wouldn't say he's over the hill just yet though.

He hailed a cab the other day.
Possible replacement for Terry at the back.

Well he has to start now, or the fans can demand their money back under the Trades Description Act.
