Lff - not being creative has been an England issue for years. Playing the game at the wrong pace at the wrong time is also a long term issue. We always play 50:50 long balls from the back; it's called the English disease. And yes, Frank... Step aside next time.
Fair enough, I will always see things through red and white lens, but I also like to be reasonable too, I say it as I saw it, bearing in mind what England were trying to do, i.e. not lose, rather than trying to win, which they could have done with a bit more confidence and enterprise, equally they could have blown it by being a bit cavalier.
He may be known as Cashley but the guy always turns in a good shift whenever and for whomever he plays and he gets my respect for that.
Picking people up on grammar, the last resort of a person with nothing interesting to say (ever). Friendly games don't count. I know this maybe a tricky concept, but to "win" anything in a "competition" you need to win "competitive" games of football. Therefore, a player needs to play well in "competitive" games as friendlies mean **** all.
It really should be possible to build a decent team around the Arsenal trio of Oxtail_Chamberpot, Wiltshire and Walcott, especially when you throw in seasoned heads like Gerrard and Lampard. That lot plus Rooney, with Welbeck Sturridge and Lambert available, should make for an attacking side that both entertains and threatens, but it just never seems to happen. Even last nights line up should have had attacking potential, but as usual the players got further and further away from each other, and the passes got poorer and poorer as the night went on. I'm at a loss to understand why that keeps on being the case with England
I'm not picking you up on grammar, I'm picking you up on misunderstanding what I'm saying. You seem determined to interpret my words as saying I think England will win a tournament when I don't think that and I have clearly said no such thing. Patronising me about my intelligence is something I'd be more willing accept from someone who displays some kind of ability to comprehend basic English.
Thought Roy would change England and make is a better team when he took charge. Guess I was wrong. Walker can't defend to save his life and Lampard only turned up in the last 5mins. Walcott couldn't pass at all and despite Milner huffing and puffing he didn't do much either. Lambert played ok first half but hard no service. All Wilshere did was moan or fall over from ever little tackle etc. His passing was awful as well. Cahill was great tho and saved us a hell of a lot from a flappy Hart.
Cahill defended very well; my only very slight criticism is that when he plays out, it is with a bit of a hoof. Didn't he play for Big Sam?
Nope, it seems not. Allardyce left in 2007 and Cahill joined Bolton in 2008. For the sake of the argument, since his first pro appearance at Aston Villa in 2004, he has played under... David O'Leary - Aston Villa Martin O'Neill - Aston Villa Steve Cotterill - Burnley Bryan Robson - Sheffield United Gary Megson - Bolton Wanderers Owen Coyle - Bolton Wanderers Andre Villas-Boas - Chelsea Roberto Di Matteo - Chelsea Rafa Benitez - Chelsea Jose Mourinho - Chelsea
Lambert got off to a flyer with two goals in two games and hardly any opportunity in the third match and with the main striker back in the next to home games will be call-up or not?
I think he will get a further call up....he has done enough to warrant it. I doubt he will get a start though, but will be on the bench. He needs to play well for Saints in the mean time though, both as it is his job and to keep himself in Hodgson's eye.
I think his England exploits will do us good...his confidence must be high. He now has 3 goals this season, so less chance of goal mouth nerves. He even said he enjoyed the Ukraine game, so he hasn't lost his confidence. Roy said he was like a kid with a new toy...I think that new things can fire up the interest. He will see this season as something new and that can only be good for us.
