wait so did Lambert score at Wembley with Bristol Rovers? If so is that 4 goals in 4 Wembley appearances?

Just couldn't resist researching it, the Mirror appear to be wrong from the official reports.

He never scored in that. Scored in the semi-final though. Five appearances at Wembley though.

1st April 2007 - Football League Trophy Final (AET) - Bristol Rovers 2-3 Doncaster Rovers - Lambert plays full 120 minutes
    26th May 2007 - League Two Play-Off Final - Bristol Rovers 3-1 Shrewsbury Town - Lambert plays full 90
28th March 2010 - Football League Trophy Final - Carlisle United 1-4 Southampton - Lambert scores first and gets MOTM
14th August 2013 - International Friendly - England 3-2 Scotland - Lambert scores the winner with his first touch
6th September 2013 - World Cup Qualifier - England 4-0 Moldova - Lambert scores the second and assists two.

Being reported that Hodgson planned to drop SRL for Tuesday's match if Sturridge available. I wouldn't have been surprised if Rickie didn't start with Sturridge available, but I doubt very much that he wouldn't have been on the plane. Papers trying to make something of nothing. What I am sure of is that a lot of England fans (not just Saints fans) would have been disappointed. Think he's getting a fan club...the ordinary England supporter feels he has more in common with Rickie than with the average England player who hasn't had to claw his way to the top.

That doesn't surprise me in the least. The FA have a big club mentality.Probably desperately disappointed that Lambert has come up with the goods and given them a problem.I can't see how they could possibly drop a player after two performances like that.

I actually think the FA are thrilled by Rickie. A lot of people were getting jaded by England...same old players that no one really cares about, capable of qualifying, but not really good enough. Lambert is now their poster boy with that wonderful picture of him on the advert for the Moldova game...with the headline, Come where the joy is. A long time since the word joy could be mentioned in the same breath as the England football team. It may have given Hodgson a headache, but a good headache because how would it benefit him if Rickie turned out to be useless. No manager minds having a player stepping up to give him another option. Helps that Lambert has shown that there is more to his game than just being a target man.

Agree with this. Rickie actually seems very popular on the whole at the moment.

I've seen a lot of comments online saying how they enjoy seeing him play for England.

In fact, just this morning I saw a comment of: "Rickie Lambert almost feels like a reason to like international football again."

Followed by several agreements and comments suggesting that he's someone who loves football, loves playing and scoring for his country.

They also say "if only we had ten others with Rickie's attitude".

    From The Sunday Times:

You have got to dream and you have got to believe,” said a smiling Rickie Lambert. There are reasons he is fast becoming the poster-boy for England fans. Which ordinary bloke could look at Steven Gerrard and imagine being such a freak of talent and athleticism, or see Wayne Rooney and guess what it’s like having the intuitive picture of the game that Rooney carries in his head on a football pitch? But Lambert? Anyone can relate to working for the rent, getting by and holding on quietly to ambitions, even when the reality of life suggests that they won’t be realised.

I have seen a lot of this too. Below are two comments made under the article that the People did on Rickie:

"I've grown to love Lambert from his performances for England. He was excellent against Moldova. Great, humble character as well".

"Something tells me, Rickie Lambert will be the star of the show on Tuesday and England will be smiling by the end of the match".

It has also now got to the point where my seven year old son goes out wearing his Saints shirt with Lambert on the back and numerous people are referring to it and making positive comments! I have always been proud to support Southampton but all of this makes me more so. Good on you Rickie. You deserve everything that is coming your way!

Didn't like Mail On Sunday piece...saying that rickie leaves the clever stuff to others. Did he not see that pass for Wellbeck's first goal? World class.
