[Tonight's match is the oldest international fixture in the world. England versus the Jocks a game which will be so one sided I am already feeling embarrassed for Aberdeen Saints. No true Englishman should have any affection for the Scots collectively and should be hoping we give them a lesson in how to play football. Having said all of that I quite like wee Gordon and if it ends up one nil following a SRL goal I shall be satisfied. QUOTE=AberdeenSaint;5178882]I certainly won`t be embarrassed, irrespective of the score tonight. Please enlighten us as to the reasons for your bigoted attitude towards the Scots.
Lost your tongue for once Godders ? - please enlighten us. By the way, I enjoyed the game, and England just deserved to win.
Apart from anything else, ending with the simile "as clever as Einstein" is 7 year old child standard.
Lost your tongue for once Godders ? - please enlighten us. By the way, I enjoyed the game, and England just deserved to win.
It was a good game, finishing on a high It was more competitive than most friendlies and demonstrated how a team (supposedly of a lower standard) can do well if they want it, the other team start with the wrong attitude and they have been well drilled by their manager...just like our triumphs against Chelsea, Liverpool and City. I said earlier that this was Scotland's best chance...England are in the transition to nowhere at the moment...too much faffing and not enough bite. I don't buy into all that 'they don't care' malarkey...I'm sure they care, but we lack fire at the moment. As one article said, Rickie was a breath of fresh air in the England side. To be a better side, we need a few more fresh faces, but where from? Internationally, England lives in boring times.
The Goal website have named Rickie as World Player of the Week: http://www.goal.com/en/news/1717/editorial/2013/08/19/4196697/- "A True Footballing Fairytale" Aww...
Remember tghuis from Trixter! Andy Carrol is on £80k a week not £100k. Absolutely top signing for us. Glad we didnt keep our interest in Lambert. Too old and on the way down. What a great day for West Ham United.
Apologies if already posted, but I'd hate it for members to have missed this very balanced and aware article on Rickie Lambert: http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/29212/8862082/deserved-recognition
Bump. I got bored and looked back through one of my favourite threads of all-time. please log in to view this image
Great bump! I read on from p.35 and as an antidote for the occasional bickering we get on this forum to read through those pages of Saints fans united in joy brought a tear to my eye as well.
Even after all the things I have seen SRL do in a Saints shirt, I must admit that goal actually brought tears of joy to my eyes. I was watching it on my own in the front lounge and went so mental I lost my voice the next day. My other half and daughter were watching a film in the other room up loud with surround sound and loads of bass and said that they could hear me over the top of it. The next day my neighbour asked if I enjoyed the game as he and his wife could hear lots of screaming coming from our direction! That goal is one reason we should cut SRL a bit of slack. He took us to the Premier league, he kept up in the Premier league and he has performed for his country. He comes across as a great down to earth guy and deserves this. He may be off form, but I'd prefer an off form Lambert to Caroll any day No 7
Great to read again. Found myself nodding to one very wise piece....then realised it was mine...didn't recognise it at all A bit where I was wrong was saying that I didn't know where England was going to get their next generation of players....well I do now....down here on the South Coast. As said, I think Rickie deserves our support for all he has done for us and being an all round great guy. I also think he missed out on a last payday...I don't think he wanted to go to WHU in his heart, but it made a lot of sense financially at this stage of his career. He's only earnt decent money for a few years and faces the rest of his life on what he has squirrelled away and what he can earn doing something else. A lot of footballers go bankrupt within a few years of quitting the game. he deserves all the support we can give him. I hope he goes to the World Cup (as he probably will)...that will make the fairytale complete.
Now the fairytale would be really complete if he scored a last minute penalty to win the final Ok...I'll take a last minute winner to get us to the final instead!
If he scored the winner for us, they would make his life story into a film (with beetroot in the title). The problem is that most football films are rubbish...though did enjoy Bend It Like Beckham.
I have the match highlights saved on my Sky box & set to about a minute before the goal. Whenever Saints have a bad result, I flick it on & I'm instantly cheered up Possibly a bit sad, but then it's possible I'm a bit sad...
