I'm with Fran on this. I have not looked forward to an England game since my Forum namesake played against Italy (the less said about that the better). Sir Rickie Lambert, good luck, enjoy the day, grab a goal and come back safe No7
Totally agree. Can't remember the last time I was excited about an Engnad game outside the World Cup or Euros.
Tonight's match is the oldest international fixture in the world. England versus the Jocks a game which will be so one sided I am already feeling embarrassed for Aberdeen Saints. No true Englishman should have any affection for the Scots collectively and should be hoping we give them a lesson in how to play football. Having said all of that I quite like wee Gordon and if it ends up one nil following a SRL goal I shall be satisfied.
On the Saint's player interview, he mentions the prospect of a few of the lads going up to Wembley to watch him. Now THAT is team spirit.
Someone needs to go up to Wembley tonight and act as Rickie's protector - make sure no Scot touches him. Any volunteers?
Then you know **** all about the history of this fixture. I well remember Channon playing against them in Scotland and he scored and we trounced them. His comment after the game was the old Dr Johnson quote "The best thing about Scotland is the road to England." Now stop being a little softie. Next you'll be telling us how lovely the Pompey fans are.
Sorry Godders, but calling the Scots "jocks" and telling us no "true Englishman" would have any affection for them is offensive and ridiculous. You have no right to define me or anyone else by your petty prejudices. This game is a sporting rivalry not an excuse for dinosaurs like you to impose your supremacist fantasies on the rest of us.
Seeing the ball well is ever-so-slightly crucial, I would have thought. Then again, it could the latest excuse to save a player for the Premier League.
If Lambert doesn't start then I really don't see the point in him being there. Bringing him on for 10 minutes will not show Hodgson anything. Anyone know when they are going to announce the teams? Didn't realise that Carrick is 32 by the way. Its not age thats the problem then. Maybe Lallana will get a late call at this rate of attrition.
I've been thinking about this game a lot too. To the best of my recollection, the last time I got so worked up about an England game was for the Home Internationals in 1967 when Big Ron Davies was playing for Wales against England. For that game only, I supported Wales. Rickie is rapidly assuming the mantle of Ron Davies in my Saints Book of Heroes, and will hopefully play a decisive role in tonight's match. I just love Southampton Football Club.

If rooney is not 100% isn't it a bit risky playing him in a friendly? I just don't see why he would risk it. Would be great if SRL could play at least a half.
I don't think he will unfortunately. Gerrard said that Rooney isn't match fit and that he needed game time, Hodgson will probably do that and start with Rooney and bring him off for Lambert early 2nd half IMO. Shame cos if there is any friendly where you start with a fully fit 11 surely its this one...
