Yh when I watched it I thought that martin lipton or whatever his name is came across as a complete twat. I think this shows why theses journo's work for the mail, mirror and star.
You may all be aware of it, but I wasn't. A Saintsweb poster pointed out that his hatred of Saints stems from the 250K that Lowe won in a libel case. Seems he unfairly criticised the then Saints Chairman....sounds very similar to his vitriolic attack on Nicola.
I've a spoken to a couple of people who have mentioned Martin Samuel. One is a producer for BBC Match of the Day, the other writes for Reuters. He's a bit of a Marmite man in journalism is Samuel. He's Oxford-educated and has gone on record to say there is no point someone taking on journalists who are not Oxbridge-educated in the course of English Language. Understandably so, that's quite an unpopular view.
It optimizes the lack of serious knowledge of football outside the top 6 of the premier league. It's why a player can have 3 or 4 decent displays for a Liverpool or Arsenal and the calls for an England cap is heard but it takes a player a couple of seasons for another club to turn heads. Notice Samuel quickly makes the point that Scotland does not really count as international football, so just in case he does do well he has a get out.
Yeah and that's what's so strange about the England team selection policy. It's easier to put in good performances with better players around you. Yet England are extremely reluctant to pick players that play very well in weaker sides. Completely lacks logic.
Maybe England will be more likely to use Welbeck out wide now...? Defoe still has a thigh issue according to a Spurs mate, whilst Moyes expects Rooney to play "a small part" in the game.
Made my heart sing when I looked at the list on the OS of the eight players who have joined their national squads and there was: Rickie Lambert (England)! Off thread, the u21s are playing Liverpool in their opening match of the season at 2 pm...we are missing a few players on international duty, but presumably so are Liverpool.
Shots on Sky of Rickie training in his England kit. Saying that he has a good chance of getting on the pitch and how delighted a lot of people are for him.
Go Ricky! So what do we think is a realistic amount of time he will get on the pitch? 45 mins? Coming on as a 2nd half sub? Starting?
Sub for Rooney I would guess. As Roy knows everything he needs to know about Rooney, it would be logical to give Ricky some time, but when has anything been logical about the England set up.
I'd like to think with Moyes saying Rooney should not play more than a small part, that Rickie would get an hour before Rooney comes on. Maybe not.
I don't see why if Rooney is not fit enough to play for Man United that he is fine to start for England 3 days later? Seems odd.
Let' hope Roy isn't as stupid as he seems and that maybe he'll notice during training sessions that Rickie is actually quite a good player, despite being old and playing for Southampton, which is pretty much all Roy thinks of him right now.
