It would be worth a try. All they can do is say no after all.

£8M for a striker who's in the England squad, and it sounds ridiculous. Shows what the expectation of the England squad is these days doesn't it.

I'm guessing it's the wages he was referring to, not the transfer fee.

While £8m seems low for a goalscorer of his quality, remember he's 32 next month. There's no resale value there.

The point is what happens when Carroll is fit? Lambert and he are essentially the same player, they won't play together so if you have them both ****loads of wages and fee is wasted. Whereas Holt would settle for the second fiddle role once Carroll is fit methinks and cost a fraction of Lambert.

Even so, £65k/wk for an England squad player, what do you think Sheringham was getting at the back end of his career? This is more of a comment on the state of England's attacking options than an attempt to justify West Ham's spending.

Don't think they're exactly the same, I think you could play Lambert a little deeper. Holt would settle for second fiddle, sure, but is he going to get them the goals to keep them up that Lambert would? Unlikely, he's got nowhere near the technical ability of Lambert.

I never said for one minute that Holt is as good as Lambert. The point is Carroll would be first choice so they only need a stop-gap. There is no way in the world any 2 of those 3 would play in the same team.

I think Lambert & Carroll could/would play in the same side for West Ham given their squad so I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

Lambert would help the Hammers stay up no doubt but thats a lot of cash for someone his age.

Would rather go for Beckford at a fraction of the cost, Bolton really need the cash so will take less than his worth 2m? and we get a proven poacher who at 30 should be desperate for one last crack at the Prem.
