Has anyone heard of Zoran Tosic? Man Utd paid £7 million for him and he played five games before they showed him the door. Some Man Utd supporting bloke I know used to brag about that. How they had that much money and all that. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he's moaning about Man City buying the title right now. Oh the irony.
Completely. Spending is arguably a necessary, but not a sufficient condition for winning the Premier League. Mancini has been fantastic for most of this season, along with players such as Hart and Kompany. You need more than just money (but you certainly do need the money).
City bought how many players each year, same as Chelski when they were buying the title. I have to say that Utd buy 1 major player on a regular basis, not multiple, other teams try to catch up quickly, the new FIFA rules should sort out what's right, but ultimately the money will somehow manage to keep getting spent. Just also want to point out, that the richest club didn't win it, Utd threw it away 2 weeks ago when they lost to Wigan & drew 4-4 with Everton.
I like seeing a change at the top. What Tottenham and Man City have done over the last couple of years has made the top end of the premier league table worth watching again. I remember about 4 years on the bounce where Man Utd or Chelsea would win, followed by Arsenal and then Liverpool, with Villa threatening to break the top 4 and then failing miserably coming late April each year. Yawn. Teams splashing the cash in the prem doesn't bother me unless it becomes a taxpayer issue. It's teams in the lower leagues that spend like mad but then fail to get promoted. That's what inflates the prices for our club! At the same time though I like to see the rich clubs fail so it's kind of a bittersweet thing!
At the end of the day, it's the wages part that's costing the money, transfer fees are basically irrelevant at the moment, when these new financial rules come in, then these players & their agents might get a bit less. Hopefully!
Portsmouth are a tax-payer issue. They went bust FIRST TIME, and the tax payer got 20p in every one of millions of pounds they owed us. This proves that every winning Premiership club has the potential to be the same. If any 'normal' business ran the same on-going tax debts, they would be called 'illegally-trading', or indeed words to that effect.
Every company that goes into admin pays a percentage in the pound to the tax man, it's happening daily, it's the ****ing useless HMRC that allow the debts to get so high before taking action that's the real issue. Though specifically with regard to Pompey and Rangers, the tax bill was not actually run up during normal trading, it was years of tax that the HMRC reclaimed due to the nature of the accountancy practices they used to pay their players.
The richest club in the league is actually Southampton, possibly also Reading now(though it's hard to know the actual worth of Russian businessmen). Just as a side issue, check out the wife of the new Reading owner... please log in to view this image
I swear you only ever post anti-Man United stuff. I'd suggest most people on here aren't bothered about them, but some might find it strange that they are so universally hated for doing very little wrong other than winning too often for some people. It seems to be the United haters that are the only ones really bothered about it. As for Man City, I don't see why people have a big issue with them either, as Benjo says, it's nice to see a different team winning the league. Yes they spent money but so does everyone else. It's the teams like Arsenal who fail every year because they refuse to spend that annoy me.
No I can't stand them either. I would sooner see anyone win the title but them and their army of plastic glory hunters.
