Why do they never show Laurel And Hardy on terrestrial TV anymore? Is it because it's too violent. PC gone mad, it's a disgrace. Same thith the Fred Quimby Tom and Jerry cartoons. They are absolutely hilarious but probably considered too violent. One episode Tom had the fur on top of his head mown off and the rest of it he was wearing a ginger wig with a middle parting. It was sid splitting stuff.

When I was a kid Tom was my favourite just because he always seemed to come out worst.

Spike and Tyke as well <laugh>

BBC2 used to show them every day about 20yrs ago now its just antique and ****ty quiz shows although I do like Pointless:embarrassed: and as for Tom & Jerry I suppose the Itchy and Scratchy show is a direct copy.Do you remember the black maids legs, that's all you saw probably one of the reasons it's not shown now.

Looking after people that are alive if you must know.

In this country the honest people get shafted every day.

Who cares about some ****in spastic King that's been dead for centuries. He's just a pile of bones like we all will be someday.

Utter ****in futility in the extreme.

Used to work with a guy who came from there. And, not unsurprisingly, he was was huge fan as well.

Laurel & Hardy are one of those rarities in that they transcend generations. It was my mum and dad that got me hooked on them.

Showing Laurel & Hardy films in hospitals. People would be back on their feet in no time.

I love the L&H episode where the big gripper ties their legs around their necks, absolutely quality. They did great slapstick, such as when Stan opens the door and bumps into Olly who gets his heed stuck in the railings of a headboard. Fecking quality <laugh>

Sorry to sound disrespectful, Toiler, but you are so wrong. History has never been as important to us as a nation, as it is now. To lose sight of our history, the characters that formed this country and the reasons for why we stand alone as the greatest nation on earth, is to throw away our identity in an instant.

As it is, children are learning less about their ancestral heritage and are, in turn, being taught to feel ashamed of being English/Scottish etc. Instead, the youth of today are programmed to feel partial and liberal about all and sundry - but without any insight as to what made them who they are and why they are.

To suggest that money has been wasted on Richard III's remains is like suggesting that we no longer preserve steam railways, Spitfires and ancient monuments such as castle, forts and villages. Or do you think it better to bulldoze such areas so that additional housing estates can be built?

History, alone, reminds us of how great we used to be.

What good is it going to do digging up a skeleton exactly? By all means teach history at schools and there is a hell of a lot more to be ashamed of than proud with respect to Britains history. Like just about every country in the world.

The main reason why I have no time for nationalism at all. It engenders disrespect and intolerance of others.

We do have an ongoing housing shortage and old bones & ancient ruined villages don't keep the rain out. :)

We need more homes for the imminent mass influx of Romanians and Bulgarians.

Sadly, this is the case. And they will be entitled to everything under the sun, unlike those born here, whatever clour, creed, religion, sexual orientation.

You have answered your own question, Toiler. History highlights social injustice better than any other source of academia. Without knowledge of our past mistakes, how do we ensure that we never repeat them?

I know what you mean but in this instance? What good will become of it?

As a country we cannot look after our own people as it is whom for whatever reason have fallen on bad times/health/financially under a double dip recession. We really should be concentrating on thos alive and requiring help. This country is a disgrace at it.

So we will have to agree to disagree, sort of because I take your point.

That's the trouble with life. Nothing is ever Black or White.

I suppose it is a matter of priority, too.

I would consider the Richard III investigation as money well spent, whereas the 3 million squid winging its way to Somalia is a waste.

Conversely, you could say that the money would be better spent on hospital equipment etc. The argument is endless.

I am particularly biased, though, as I write historical fiction for a living.
