While I don't condone what he did, do you know what the fan in question said to get such a reaction? How do you know it wasn't something particularly vitriolic and/or offensive? I'm sorry but for all their faults, players are only human and no doubt he was receiving shed loads of abuse so you can understand why he might have reacted the way he did. If you can't take it, don't deal it.
Well said Lapras I remember my late father telling me some years ago, about a former Spurs striker Bobby Smith, who was rather obese at the time, playing for a non -league side in the London area, taking a load of stick from an opposition 'fan' regarding his somewhat portly appearance. He put up with the verbal abuse for about an hour, "snapped", and jumped into the crowd laying out the gobby fan with one punch. I believe he may have been subsequently red carded, but he probably thought it was a worthwhile reaction at the time PS. I must of course add that I do not advocate violence at football matches.........
