What an awesome day. Only blip was losing 3 wickets, but assuming we get 150-200 then the game will be over. Aussie's have a decent bowling attack but apart from Clarke have no decent batsmen.
The fact Watson is heralded for being so great, yet only has 2 test 100's is appalling. All England have to do for the remainder of the series is bat first, get 300+ and the pressure on the Aussie's batsmen increases hugely.

today's been ok for england. maybe a little "slow" but roots beuilding a big innings and bell could go do a centruy. this one is won by now so its just who skittles australia out and who gets a big score.

Still worrying how hard we're finding it to get the tail out. Last wicket partnerships have put on over 250 in the 4 innings so far. Luckily it's not hurt us just yet but we need to make sure we finish it off before players get set.
Overall though, a comfortable win and ashes are retained - can't see us losing the next 3.

I'm with Sweats on the Root topic. He is a young lad who's just come into test cricket and started brilliantly. It's not about not giving him a chance....he was already getting his chance and playing very well but since his move up the order he's looked a lot more shaky (although in his defence 2 of his outs have been unlucky). Whether Compton is the best bet to open I'm still not sure, I'm pretty sure Trott could open but for me moving Root up for such a big series could damage his confidence.
Anyway, all that aside....what a joy to see the Aussies collapsing

Not at all. I never disputed his obvious talent. I just doubted the pressure of an ashes series could be detrimental. See how he gets on in the next test eh.
