replays of first test on so thats sky's whole day buggered.

I recko nthe press hacks will be writing fake footy stories to fill the gaps now.
 
those papers don't write themselves. they'll be on caught offside now looking for something to print. they then pass it off to the unwahsed masses who don't "interweb" as insider info.
 
The first day's play has been abandoned for in the second Test between England and New Zealand at Headingley because of persistent rain.

Don't know. There is no way the Kiwis would have got anywhere close to 350 let alone the 480 they've been set.

Probably rain and end a draw now.

whats the point in a test match thread with no updates? we don't all have sky <whistle>

saw the highlights on channel 5, don't understand why we gave them such a high target to chase that was unlikely even with a good team they would reach, now they will prob get a draw because the weather will save them.
 
It was a ****ing bizarre decision not to impose the follow-on. We would have twatted them and got more points towards the number 1 spot. I don't hold with treating a test match as a practice session. It's in the lap of the gods now <doh>

Exactly. Plus then they moan about the ****ing attendance.

If they aren't going to take it seriously enough to try and ensure they get the win then would should the public pay £40 to see the English team get in some batting practice.

I wasn't happy when we didn't enforce the follow on.
 
I think the follow stuff is hindsight really, it's more that they (Trott) plodded along to a total that even the very best Australian side ever in history would never have achieved, let alone this NZ side.

They should have set them 350 max and if they had they would have had them out by now. That's the issue, I think the follow on is irrelevant myself.

I'm going back on what I said about Compton mind, I reckon Root could open and Bairstow play middle order with KP when he returns. Compton ain't good enough.

The plodding batting by Trott (we weren't trying to save the ****er) and the ludicrously late declaration compounded the decision about the follow-on.
 
We only need a couple of hours solid play, the way that NZ bottom order bat we would get 4 wickets easy enough. Not looking good though. If only someone controlled the weather.
