No, we won with a lead of 311. If the Aussies had been chasing 298, they would have been a lot more sensible on the last couple of runs knowing they were so close to victory (not that 14 is a millions miles away mind). Plus, the English players would have been that bit more nervous too!

It doesn't neccessarily work like that though does it? With a different target they could have approached it differently early on and given their wickets away. A different target could have created an entirely different ending.

Not really.

If we'd set them 250 and they'd decided it was an easy target and gone hell for leather to get it done quickly on the Saturday they could have quite easily been out for 220.
