The FA should look at a number of things - how to encourage english talent from an early age and ensure success is maintained via its academy and other enterprises; finding a way to get players and clubs to see that being chosen for the national sqaud is an honour and a privilege above club-level achievements and that behaviour on and off the field exemplifies this; better approaches to maintaining a unity of the squad - occasional 'get-togethers' before friendlies is not enough for any manager; look at keeping the histerical sections of the press at arms lentgh (opening a mssive can of worms there) and being clever and cautious in negotiation of mangerial contracts. But I am afraid that you are right Jayram, the FA are a bunch of idiots and so, against all footballing and other common sense, it looks like we will be stuck with 'Arry on a very expensive contract.
Bale said this: What a complete tosser he is - as if he's some sort of CL regular through his career. News flash Gareth - you've only ****ing played in it once.
..and his one decent half of a game was because the other team's manager took off the defender at half time that owned him for the first 45 mins of the game.
This. And this is what annoys me. The media (and many fans) will find any excuse for englands predictable failure. And they always fail to realise that the main reason is that england are a poor side. Look at our clubs...the best players are usually foreign. And none of our players travel abroad to play. On the other hand there are dutch, spainish and french players in every league. Also the top german and italian sides are generally (altho less so atm with italy) FULL of germans and italians. Someone said a stat of english players who play in the champions league and it was WAY lower than brazilians and brazil arent even in europe!
Er - he can only play in the CL if the Club he plays for qualifies. He is clearly good enough to play there so its hardly surprising he would consider his options if Spurs fail to qualify, particularly as this would mean Spurs were unlikely to strengthen so wouldn't have a very good chance of qualifying next year either. I don't know why Arsenal fans can't see what a good player he is - he is the only Spurs player who would make a serious improvement to your best team, just as RVP is the only Arsenal player who would make our best XI a lot better. Everywhere else on the pitch you could make a case for the Spurs or Arsenal player being better. You've got a better manager than us though which explains why you might finish one or two points better off.
You can have him as far as I am concerned. Not consistent enough as a goalscorer and does little else. However he can be pretty good as an impact sub when the opponents are tiring and his pace can hurt them and you've got no-one better for that job.
What about Adebayor, do you want to keep him? And would you keep him with the prices we see out there, on 170k a week?
We need someone as good as him, ideally two! But i don't think we can afford to pay anyone £170k per week (I don't think anyone else will pay him more than £100k either so we may still be able to do some sort of deal). Llorente and/or Cavani would do it for me, but we certainly won't get those if we're not in the CL and probably not even if we are.
Nobody is saying he is not a good player. His arrogance to believe though that he has to be in it is astounding. When he has played at the top for a couple of seasons then maybe he should expect it. Till then he should keep his gob shut and try and get his current team in the CL. It was a really dumb thing to come out with, at such a crucial stage.
I agree he would be better keeping quiet, but knowing how good you are isn't arrogance. He's not Bendtner
To be fair though - Bendtner - rightly or wrongly - had reached a level where he was playing CL football regularly. I could understand him coming out with what Bale did. But for Bale to do it
and another gets ready to exit the Tottanic. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17885776 Strange timing for all these quotes. Its not even gossip but direct quotes..
That's 3 in as many days - Adebayor will probably be the next to come out and state his intention to play at a bigger club next season.
