Seeing as Cody is back training with us and there is clearly a deal in place, does anybody else think the delay in the official announcement is so that we can tie up a deal for Akinfenwa and then announce them together..... a major shot in the arm for all at the club and supporters?
I must admit I have found this all very strange from a marketing point of view. Just to post training photos on the O/S. There was a good opportunity here to promote ahead of Saturday's game, so as you say is there a delay in a proper announcement for other reasons?
Its on Gills player now and he's suggesting that he's playing Saturday and also Coventry wouldn't have wanted him to go to another L1 club.
That's my concern too. Can't see them bringing in another player to support him unless they're both permanent signings though. Surely we've got enough talent available now to ensure promotion.
Alternatively rather than someone coming in they could try and use the Cody high to over the low of someone going, like Payne! Or maybe even if it is a loan switch try and quell any negativity. Or it could just be we are hashing out the final details of how much and what means we take him permenantly
On a slightly different note even though it was only two seasons ago, believe or not the only current Gills players that Cody will actually know/remember from his last spell are: Danny Jackman Jack Payne Charlie Lee (4 game Loan) Chris Whelpdale (4 game Loan) Callum Davies (1 appearance against Crewe)
http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/coventry-city-fc/coventry-city-fc-news/2013/01/24/92746-32672563/ Pretty much confirms that he has signed then. Although Mark Robins (Coventry boss) has stated that they have a 28 day recall on him if he scores loads of goals. Not something I wanted to read tbh.
That is bad news and then we will have to be worried all the time that he may go back. Now I will feel unsettled.
I've just seen the second part of Scoy's interview on Gills Player and he would not confirm that cody has signed, just that he's been training with us, and would not talk about any other players that might be arriving as he felt that was disrespectful to other clubs.
Yeah he ain't going to mention things as that is for MA to do and he was probably busy finalizing things.
Have seen on twitter someone saying that the reason we have not confirmed any signings on loan yet is due to any rest of the season loans for a max of 93 days would take them short of the last game of the season on 27th april. only with them signing tomorrow would they be able to play all games this season...sounds about right to me.
So McDonald can be recalled after 28 days if he scores goals! In those 28 days Gills play 6 games of which 4 must be regarded as easy with 2 tough ones of which one is away. Gills must expect about 13 points minimum from those 6 games and it would not be unreasonable to anticipate McDonald scoring at least 4 or 5 times. Coventry will than assess whether or not they want him back. Sounds like they might just do that. The incentives on this deal are all wrong.
I think people are getting a little carried away with the recall clause, may understanding is that is a pretty standard clause, we had it with Flitney and Essam's deal ear;ier this season. Yes there is a chance that if Cody starts scoring goals, but it is clear that he isn't in Robin's plans else he wouldn't be let out on loan. The clause is more likely to be recalled if Coventry have an injury crisis
