Modric and bale were known about ... We were prepared to the asking price and take the risk...same with berbatov. Im pretty sure walker was not him but maybe it was ... The truth is even if what Ive written is unfair on him...its a pretty piss poor success rate considering it was his job to get good players. And thats without his role in undermining Jol to get ramos in. Not exactly a great addition to his successful cv either. Kaboul was not what we needed at the time...we needed an experienced player to play alongside dawson ... We almost wrecked kaboul first time round. Yid vicious .... Thanks for reminding me of that masterstroke of a signing!
As has been said, Sidney, it's easy having fun with somebody else's money. For me, Comoli had a "**** against the wall" approach. I wouldn't like to think that he signed disasters, like Bentley, to line his own pockets, but I suppose it's possible.
During Harry's reign. Defoe 15m Kranjcar 2m Friedel free Adebayor loan Parker ? VDV 8m Kyle Walker 4.5m Much more impressive dealings i think.
Agreed...and you can add Saha loan Gallas free Sandro 8m Kaboul 6m Although he werent the best criuch should be included...bought for 9m...important for 2 yrs then sold for 10m.
Levy gave him his head, backed him with a huge pot of money, he couldn't have asked for more. What would Harry have done with if he was here at the time? It all ended up with Ramos!!! some result! The only thing I am grateful to him for is opening Levy's eyes to the need to get rid of him.
Modric - Signed by Levy Bale - Hardly an obscure player Berbatov - Signed at Jol's insistence Woodgate - Signed at Ramos' insistence Walker - Signed a year after Comolli was sacked Boateng - Not the defensive midfielder Jol asked for Taarabt - Not the solution to the left flank Jol asked for Kaboul - Signed as a long-term replacement for Ledders, ruined within six months Bent - Was to be signed in the event of Mido and Defoe leaving, not just Mido
His job is too find players, so why is it an exceptional feat that he found some. It doesn't matter who he found, its what he wasted. Shifty gallic twat out for himself.
I always compared him to a novice at Football Manager - thinking he was buying some good prospects when he wasn't, and thinking that negotiation meant adding a couple million more to the transfer fee (which is even harder to refute given his more recent transfer dealings with someone else's money) Some of the fees involved were staggering for their incompetence: Bent - £16.5m Bentley - £15m Pavluychenko - £14m Hutton - £10m Boateng - £6m Whilst some fees were more logical - £3.5m for BAE, £4.5m for Kaboul and Dos Santos - they were both seen as long-term investments by Comolli but not necessarily by Jol or Ramos (or 'Arry, in the case of GDS.) In Kaboul's case, for example, we needed a centre back who could play immediately - Comolli didn;t sign one so as a result, Jol had to throw Kaboul in at the deep end which stunted his development, while Ramos didn't rate him and sold him in the next available transfer window.
Always bigging players up with totally unrealistic tags, 'the new Zidane' blah blah'. Imo praise in this way often leads to bigheadedness, or try to hard to live up to it. Either way development suffers...why do it.
DC nearly drove into me in Chigwell one day, he was driving his Range Rover whilst yakking on his mobile. I'd have fekking killed him if he'd have hit my motor. Best off in mouseland methinks.
Very harsh. He was a key player in the year we finished 4th, playing the majority of matches, and was a very solid CB.
Rico spur Palacious was great for us until his brothers body was discovered in his homeland after he had been kidnapped. He clearly never recovered and to be honest it is a cheap ****ty shot to drag him up as an example of a failure. Keane was bought as an emergency when defoe broke his foot...and as we'd sold him for 22m just 6 months previously the 15m figure ids misleading...you are also forgetting that keane did well that season as we went from bottom 3 at xmas to missing out on the uefa cup by 2 pts. He also did well the following season with both crouch and defoe...remember 5-1 away to hull or his 4 goals v Burnley. His second spell died when he organised a piss up in Ireland that xmas. As for Bassong ...maybe harsh but fair do. Crouch was a big part of getting us into the champions league and we made money on his sale. The idea that you dismiss Sandro and VDV as Levy buys (as though he's buy anyone against his wishes) suggests you aint keen on Harry but your view on Defoe suggests you're a wum. Defoe may not be the greatest striker in the world but average? He's scored over a hundred prem goals...over a hundred goals for spurs, has scored 5 goals in one games and has scored for every team he's played for. He was a big part of us becoming a top side...we's sold him for 9 m 12 mths previously so his actual cost was 6m. Slightly different from your slant but hey ho.
Keane was a key buy at the time we bought him, and he served a very important purpose, not for his goals, but mainly for his leadership, at a time when morale was extremely low at the club. Dofoe, as bad as he was for the 18 months prior to the start of this season - and he was truly dire, let's be honest - has been a good servant to the club, and the fact that he seems content to play as a squad player behind both Ade and Saha makes him a far better player than Bent, who was sold recently to Villa for £24 million. All things considered, what we paid to get Defoe back off Pompey was very reasonable. Can any true Spurs fan really want Harry gone and Comoli + puppet-manager back?
colinlee i was playing devils advocate iv got nothing against harry. firstly harry admitted that he hadnt seen sandro play when he was bought likewise he had to ask advice from gullit on vdv because he didnt know anything about him when levy suggested he was available. secondly you cited two games keane scored in when he came back from liverpool what about the 30 other games he was worse than abysmal it was a disaster to sign him back from liverpoo he was shot to pieces. crouch goalscoring record was woeful am i wrong? defoe has been average nothing more or less. thirdly palacios started well but was piss poor before his brother was found tragically killed not a cheap shot you moron. Pav was more important in us getting 4th than crouch and he hardly played crouch was just ****e week in week out garbage did you watch the games from that season. clueless
agree with all the above, but find defoe extremely frustrating he doesnt lack talent but his awareness and general game not good enough for spurs but a reasonable squad player
