Off Topic Respect thread

A thread inspired by the example below, for us to register respect for people.

At the sentencing hearing for former US gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar, who has had 175 years added to his current 60 year child porn sentence for abusing 265 girls in his ‘care’. Randall Margraves, father of 3 of Nassar’s victims, asked the judge for 5 minutes alone with Nassar. When this was declined he asked for 1 minute. As this was declined he tried to attack Nassar, and was restrained by 3 court security officers before he could inflict the damage so richly deserved. He later apologised to the court and faces no sanction. The 54 year old Nassar will die in prison.

As a father of a daughter I have to say - respect Mr Margraves.

A bit of a waste of his time really, No way was he going to cause any damage to the Dr.
However the guy is not going to serve his full sentence as someone in the prison is going to inflict a lot more damage on him than the Father would have.

Interesting notion of respect. I feel the empathy - one daughter and 2 granddaughters- but, not being a man of violence, not sure I could live with myself after.

Of course had Mr Margraves actually inflicted bodily harm the judge would have been duty bound to find him in contempt and give him some sort of censure.

That's my cerebral response and Hope never to find out what my real life one might be!

No kids myself but some twat sent my niece flying at Wembley Stadium a few months ago and couldn't be arsed to look up from his phone to apologise. I very nearly thumped him so God knows how I would have reacted in far more extreme circumstances.

Becoming a bit of a problem that - walking and looking at phone. I wonder how many pedestrians are injured/ killed because of it?

I would have tried & done what margraves did or anyone who threatens or attacks my family, I’m not a violent person & never have been but protective.

I respect the passion but the execution if planned better would of been fantastic

If it was me I would of left my mark no doubt about that... made me cross enough just reading about this.

The victims have to live with this
At least the Father has a pop albeit a bit tame as if he needed to pluck up the courage

The price of not doing nothing in this situation would eat most people up imo

This isn’t bar brawl stuff not even in the same ballpark. The law is a complete ass sometimes.

Worse of the worse to steal innocence
A living hell
Society is wrong imo on this
They must suffer Dog eat dog
Natural throughout most of life to protect your young

Loads I bet. It's worrying how little regard people have for their own and others safety because they are liking something on Facebook. If it wasn't for the fact I am currently doing 90 on the M1 I would have even more to say on the subject.

Only a son but of course I have empathy, I probably would have done the same thing myself.

I can fully empathise with the man's desire for physical retribution, but it was never going to happen. Seemed a bit showy really, so not much respect.

Ponder not just the anger that he, and probably all the other parents of these girls, felt, but also the guilt at putting their offspring in the position where they were abused and never having any chance of wiping that experience away.

Relatively surprised that this seems contentious. Let’s have some other people’s examples of individuals or actions worthy of respect.

I have two daughters and I am both a coward and a pacifist. But my youngest had major trouble with an awful boyfriend,
I do know now what both I am and her elder sister were/ and probably still are capable of.

It would have become my life's work to somehow try to get at the ****.

In the court I may have pretended to "understand" the guy and ask to shake his hand to register "forgiveness". Either that or, as you say, been a lot quicker!!
