Yes he did well. Yes he had restrictions. But according to the Board, his restrictions as of around 3 years ago are self-made. Money has been available, and it was available in January, he refused to spend. We are continually told there is money. Continually none is spent. Therefore it must be Wenger refusing to spend it.
Yes he bought those players, but who since? Who has come in and excelled? Cazorla? Certainly none of the defense, and that's down to Coaching, which Wenger presides over. Why wasn't Keown kept on after he guided Arsenal to 10 clean sheets in the CL a few seasons ago? Why has the "Bould Effect" been so short lived? Why is the defense a continual disorganised shambles? All of these things require the answer of: Arsene Wenger.
I'm yet to see anyone provide any shred of evidence that would suggest that Wenger will "spend big" this summer. He never has before. Likewise, there's not a shred of evidence that he will start actually coaching the defense in any way, or reorganise and shake things up. Will he even drop players? It'll be very interesting to see how many of the Bayern lot start against Villa. My bet is at least 8 / 11. That's due to a poor squad, and who is responsible for the squad? Remove him this summer and a new manager has the entire summer to plot, plan, rebuild, retrain, reorganise. Next summer and there is a World Cup in the way that will massively affect the plans.
It's 8 years since a trophy. That's HALF of his reign. He's had a good half, and a poor half. Give him one more year, and the good times will officially have been shorter than the bad. He was a decade ahead of his time, now he's seemingly a decade behind. He didn't progress, he stayed at that one point. It made him revolutionary, a visionary, le Professeur, now he's old news. Other managers are available. Wenger is failing. There's absolutely zero point in proceeding with him at the helm. It is for the sake of nostalgia, and nostalgia does far more harm than good.
