    from NUFC.COM

Internet claims surfaced on Thursday that the threat of a court case over a rape allegation is likely to be removed when Loic Remy answers bail next week.

The 27 year-old French international was arrested by officers from Scotland Yard's sex crimes unit during May 2013, following claims made by a woman to Kent Police that she had been raped by three men.

Initially bailed until September, Remy was then re-bailed to appear last November when a further extension was granted until February 2014. He denied the allegation.

Hopefully it was genuinely a false accusation and not a case of the technicalities of the justice system failing an innocent woman.

If it means he is truly clear and can therefore focus on his football, then it's good news and we might even see some improved form in the final games of the season.

Think this just paves the way for other clubs, tbh. The problem is the vast majority of the Prem is probably more appealing than us right now. Most clubs will pay more, most have more ambition.

Agree he probably won't sign perm for us, but if he thinks he's in the shop window, then at least he might put his scoring boots on for the last dozen or so games.

Yep, another get out of jail free card for Batfink. Useless tactics, but we'll be carried along on Remy's goals.

The fact that they hadn't charged him 8 months after his arrest always pointed to the evidence being weak. Weak evidence is a common factor of rape allegations - - there is generally only the complainant and the accused present at the time of the alleged offence, they usually have some type of relationship, alcohol is often involved and (if the accused asserts that any sex was consensual) forensic evidence is usually inconclusive.

As to guilt or innocence, who knows ? False rape allegations happen, many rapist walk free. Reasonable doubt and all that.

That comment perfectly sums up how a lot of SAFC fans feel.
Forget staying in the Prem, Europe, Cups etc... it's all about two games against their larger, and better supported local rivals.
We always will be their cup final and matter more than all other things football.
It's the same with other little and large regional rivalries such as, for example Espanyol/Barca so it's certainly not unique to the North East.

I am really struggling to find one with LESS ambition. Every other club in the Premiership seems to want to do as well as possible and get high up the table as possible even if it means getting to 17th by the end of the season.

With this club it's a case of 17th will do.

If the Premier League offered a fortune to clubs that got relegated Ashley would probably take that for a season.
