I think its a good addition for Newcastle for the season but its very smart business by QPR. They have loaned Tarrabt & Remy out for sizeable fees and took them off the wage bill, probably saving £6million/per year. Their plan is to gain promotion straight back to the PL and then re-call Remy/Tarrabt who have continued to improve in the PL and they will be like 2 new signings, very good idea so I would be almost certain there is no option to buy in the agreement and Newcastle will be in a similar position to us with Evans, Welbeck & Rose.
The Mags are all over this as a brilliant signing. 1). It`s a loan so, to date, they still haven`t bought a single player. 2). In January he turned them down. Presumably he thought QPR was a better club. Now he thinks NUFC are wonderful. 3). If the pending criminal charges against him prove true he could go to prison and they lose him. 4). Recalled and they could lose him. It seems very short term to me. I`m not sure Joke has thought this through. I`m not in favour of loan signings anyway unless as an emergency but the possibilities of this being a short visit seem higher than most. In turning them down in January he showed then he would rather be somewhere else. He`s a very good player and Ashley is either being clever in not buying a player (in case he goes to clink) or Joke is simply desperate to get someone on the books.
Missed that, thank you. Still think it`s a hell of a risk especially if that`s their only incomer (Gomis & Bent by no means guaranteed). Seems to me Joke is struggling badly and he`s cutting it fine. Earlier post by Danny Sess mentioned it as good business by QPR. Hadn`t thought of it like that but it`s a very good point.
Can`t remember where I saw it (might be on the Mag board somewhere, maybe Albert or Qwops can shed some light) but I seem to recall seeing the figures £2m loan fee and £4m wages. Not sure though.
2m fee, could only be for 6 months as I'm led to believe his trial is in January. He could go down for rape so where would that leave newcastle? 2m for 12 months and goes to jail after six?
Don't think Ashley would be so stupid as to pay someone while they're in jail. Horrible twat he is, daft he's not.
I'm sure mate. Was wondering from a legal standpoint though for say insurance or something. Surely there's a limit to what is an acceptable contract stipulation. Take a prenuptial agreement in a marriage. You can sign a contract, make it say exactly what you want it to and your brief will draw it up and charge you, but legally they aren't always binding and continually get picked to bits in court. Just intrigued to know if there's any gray area.
Good point Hat, well made. Any idea of the sums involved? Don`t know where I saw the figures. Would you agree Joke is struggling?
Any idea what? £2m a year for him would be decent business e.g. £8m price on a four-year contract (plus wages). But what is the purchase clause cost??
Not sure of the sums ~ I've heard £2m for the loan, then another £6m if we want to buy. Kinnear seems to be muddling his way through the window. I'm happy enough with Remy (up to now). If we get Ince as well, it'll have gone from being a terrible window to a very good one.
+ Gomis? could turn out well. Got to be more than Remy though (especially as his future is, at best uncertain). Agree Joke seems to be muddling through. Maybe he`ll just get lucky and tell everyone how wonderful he is. (again).
Still early days. He will be better in this 4-3-3 set up but in a 4-4-2 I'm not sure he would use his biggest asset, his pace as much. Certainly a decent start.
