He owed us less than nothing. He was here on loan for Christ's sake and wanted a better category of football than we can offer because he is healthily ambitious.

We have nothing more to hold against him than Luuk de Jong had to hold against us for not making his loan move permanent. If he's available for a decent price, get him.

    This^^

Players are in work to make money. If they see an opportunity for more money they will take it. The only loyalty you might see is to a manager who did right by the player. The club is just the office. There is no romance in football anymore the dream of growing up and playing for your boyhood club is overshadowed as soon as a bucket load of cash is offered elsewhere.

I say we get the best players we can and don't worry about how they feel towards the club itself as long as they apply themselves on the pitch.

How loyal are clubs, or fans, to players ? Would a club be loyal to a player if they had the opportunity to get someone better ? Would the fans want them to ?

Who here wants to keep Jonas a second longer than we have to just because he has been a good servant to us ?

If we don't give a **** about being loyal to players, why should they be loyal to us ?

The game has changed completely. Yet we still try to hold onto some of the more virtuous ideals. The problem is exactly as you say, we pick and choose the moments. I prefer the way of the past where you had one club players etc. The reality is football is different now and this whole notion that we want players to be loyal while fans pick and choose is silly to me. The whole dynamic of a football has changed. At one time the notion of loyalty came from the wages being paid by a lot of the money generated from ticket sales etc. That isn't really the case any more and the comment "we pay their wages" is not actually wholly accurate.

Don't get me wrong. 100% commitment while they're collecting wages is no more than we have a right to expect, regardless of the exact amount of those wages to which we contribute. So long as a player gives this, however, he has earned his wages. Square deal all around.

On this basis, Ba treated us well. Remy treated us well: both have actually said nice things about the club, which they are not obliged to do.

HBA has not treated us well and should be rightly criticised. Fans haven't lost the right to hold the players to account but we should be clear what it is they should have to account for.

I saw theMag reporting that apparently us and Southampton want Redmond. I hope to Christ this isn't true.

Football is just like any other job now. If a better well paid job comes up and is offered to you, then you take it. Loyalty in football died a long time ago. As long as someone gives 100% every time they pull on the shirt then that is all you can ask.

Nathan Redmond - Jesus H Christ. I really hope that is bollocks.

I'd quite like Redmond, I think there is a huge amount of potential there. I can't why he would come here though, he knows he is going to be a reserve. Sissoko is getting better all the time, and then you have Cabella and SDJ. He is promising but isn't about to dislodge any of those 3. Happy to have a useful squad member though.

As you correctly note Freddd, when they are picking up wages I simply expect them to be professional and go about their work. You want commitment as you would in any walk of life where you are paying for services. Its where the HBA defence falls flat on its face as you correctly note. There is never an acceptable time to down tools or simply not turn up in a fit state to work when you are being paid. Everything aside from that is irrelevant until that stops.

As you say from a fans point of view, its simply about getting a square deal while accepting that football is just another open market with employees looking to do they best they can financially and in job satifaction terms. You get paid more and get to play at higher level when you do what Ba and Remy do. Sometimes however it doesn't work out job satisfaction wise because you don't play.

Good post ..Any loyalty a player does have for a club is icing on the cake and cant be ..expected or demanded, but is always good to see if/when it happens

No one is expecting loyalty, however, what I do not like is being pissed on by players (a bit like what we are doing to Jonas and I wholeheartedly am disappointed with how we are treating him)

"NEWCASTLE UNITED will seek firm assurances about Loic Remy’s long-term commitment to the club before lodging a formal offer for the want-away QPR striker.

Remy’s future is in a state of some uncertainty after a proposed move to Liverpool collapsed amid strong suggestions of a problem with the French striker’s medical.

As things stand, Remy is due to begin pre-season training with QPR at the start of next week, but Harry Redknapp has already written the striker out of his plans and it remains extremely unlikely that he will be lining up at Loftus Road next season.

Newcastle officials attempted to strike a permanent deal for Remy after his loan move to St James’ Park expired at the end of last season, but at the time, the 27-year-old expressed major reservations about signing a long-term deal with Magpies, preferring instead to pursue his ambitions of competing in the Champions League.

While Alan Pardew has successfully added Emmanuel Riviere to his squad, he would like to sign another centre-forward this summer, having lost Shola Ameobi and Luuk de Jong since the end of last season as well as Remy.

Newcastle’s recruitment team are understood to have discussed Remy’s current position with their counterparts at QPR in the last few days, but they will not be taking their interest any further unless they receive strong indications that the forward wants to return to the North-East.

At the moment, such assurances have not been forthcoming, and having been disappointed with Remy’s conduct in the closing stages of last season, when he appeared to be more interested in ensuring his fitness for the World Cup than aiding Newcastle’s attempts to finish in the top half of the table, both Pardew and managing director Lee Charnley will be wary about making another move.

Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubamayeng remain alternative attacking options, although there would be difficulties involved in pursuing either striker given their high price tags and stated desire to play in Europe next season.

Newcastle return to pre-season action when they take on Championship side Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough tonight, although Pardew is expected to rest most of the senior players who were involved in the recent tour of New Zealand.

The likes of Fabricio Coloccini, Steven Taylor and Siem de Jong are not expected to travel to South Yorkshire, although summer signing Remy Cabella could be involved after missing out on the long-haul trip to face Sydney and Wellington.

“Having just got back from New Zealand, some of the lads need a bit of a rest so this (the Sheff Wed game) will be a chance for some of the younger lads in the squad,” said Pardew.

“We’ll be looking for a result like the two we got on the tour, and a good performance as well, and hopefully some of the lads can perform well and give us something to think about.”"

I don't really see any issue with this, Jonas has been told his time is up off you go, he has been paid well for his services has he not, with the level of football wages to revenue and new younger players the club are not there to carry players, if they don't have resale value then the least the club can do is chop the wage cost, Jonas, Obertan and HBA are costing around £150k a week or £7.5million plus a year for no return so whilst it would be nice to be all warm and fuzzy about Jonas I am sure the club would rather spend the money on a striker who would make more of a difference to us this season.

I would take Remy but is he the answer?
Football appears to be going the way of 4231 and the general consensus last season was that Remy was better coming in from wide than he was up top. We'd still need a forward to play up top and then who does Remy replace from Sissoko, SDJ or Cabella? Obviously its good to have depth and he does give us more options if we went 2 up for example but it doesn't really solve the pressing concern we have.

Having said all that I'd take him still though as he has undoubted quality.
Lukaku looks to be going Everton, Carroll is injured so unless we can get Benteke I don't think we'll solve problem anyway so may as well have Remy .... if he'll actually come to us

He is definitely better coming from the left. He needs to be able to open his legs. Perhaps Cabella plays centrally and SDJ as a kind of false 9. Or you could move Sissoko to compete centrally and still add a striker. Ideally we'd be signing Remy and Benteke/Lukaku, rattling our way to the top 8. Reality makes me think we are probably done.

I'm still willing to stake a pint that we will have another striker, better than those we have to date, in the squad by the close of the window, either signed or on loan.

If you had a second line 3 of Cabella, SDJ and Remy, I expect Riviere would do fine at leading the line: be strong, play others in, nick a few himself. Let the supporting 3 produce most of the goals

How much faith and how Riviere is viewed internally is a really key view to be honest. They may well hold him in high regard. I assumed he was Shola's replacement but from what I have seen and been told, he does not really have the physical presence. We probably do need to add one of that type.

I see penniless Everton have all but signed Lukaku. Fair play to the player and the club, who obviously hold each other in high regard, but it does make you wonder what on earth Everton have over NUFC. I'm not saying we're any better, but we're not much worse and certainly not smaller.

Absolutely. I find it hard to think he won't double in value over the next 2 - 3 years (the MA approach) and knock in hatfulls while he does it
