As I said before though if you know Suarez had agreed to go to Real next year would you just loan him out? Would you buy his replacement now and consign him to the bench? Personally I'd prefer us to use him while he's here.
"Reina WILL be at Barcelona next year ...! Wouldn't it be nice if football was that cut and dried and you 'knew' where all your star players were going to be next year ...
I think 1. its supposition on both sides when mingolet was lined up. we just can't know. maybe it was last january, maybe it was after valdes said he was staying.. who knows. it is irrefutable that mingolet singed and offer went in after valdes stuff came out. it cannot be said whether barca would have bid anyway. 2. think pepe will do whats best for lfc is also supposing he is a saint. he's clearly upset and rodgers had had his say 3 times now while pepe said nothing. pepe has now had his say but we don't want to HEAR!!! 3. i think the statement is a clear break with the club heirarchy. this could be a problem in my view next summer.
your logic makes no sense. You should answer the questions yourself: 1) If LS leaves, now, MUST we really buy his replacement given the striking options we have? 2) If Pepe leaves, now, do we need to buy his replacement given the keepers we had? (assume Mignolet has not signed).
Only just read the letter, Pepe is a quality guy who I am very sad to see leave, especially in.this manner. All the best Pepe #topman
think you missed the irony in it... he merely contrasted the two world class players. again if you did a deal like ferguson did with real to hold suarez would you then go say you'll bench him for the year or you won't have the wages so you need to loan him to inter or some such. Its just pointing out how one guy is being begged to say and one pushed out the door.
http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/140030-reds-confirm-pepe-reina-loan-move this has got to be the coldest goodbye to a legend the club has ever done..... oh now its nothing new from in what it says when someone leaves like a coach or a doctor or a youth or some such and we've read the same lots... but i think this is the club changing up what it might have posted in light of reina's letter.
Reina has been a massive asset to our club - but for two seasons he's been pretty average. He comes out and says he wants a move to Barca, he doesn't get the move. We know he's not 100% committed as he wouldn't of said he wanted the move. He made his bed now he's gotta lay in it. Although you would have thought he would have been made aware of the loan first. But for me Mig on current form is a better keeper, and we can't have players hanging about making comments that they wanna leave. Exactly why Suarez needs to **** off ASAP, we aren't some kind of charity. So Bye Bye Reina, all the best.
What leaps? Your response made it clear that you doubted the progression of events with "nice story" . It's been accepted that the deal was completed after the U-turn. That is what you meant by stating the above right? I'm simply saying that we couldn't wait around for others (Reina & Barca to decide what was in their best interests we had to act in our own. Ming is a good keeper now, cheaper than Reina & so far hasn't declared he'd like to play elsewhere. Get him now & offload Reina when we can: which is what the club have done. Some of it could (as I've already stated) have been handled better but the end result is IMO the right one for the club. What leap of logic is required there? The "what would Reina do if roles reversed" was simply an expression that I find it bizarre that people are siding with a player who saw a possible better deal (for whatever reasons) elsewhere, expressed it to management & yet is somehow put out when said management reacted to his declaration in getting his replacement in now & shifting him off the books as best we can in the meantime. He can be passive aggressive all he wants the bottom line was he stated there was a better option for him elsewhere & it isn't pie in the sky, it was almost and very likely will turn into a reality within 12 months. The "he wanted to stay & fight for his place" is bollox because if it was true he could make it happen by refusing to go. Instead he's reuniting with best manager he's ever worked with. That doesn't sound terrible for him does it? What reaction to press garbage? I'm reacting to the statement below. He can dress it in neutral language all he wants but he is saying he told the manager of LFC football club that if Barca came he'd want to go. Something that some people denied he did and yet its in his own words there. At one point in the summer it looked like Barca would indeed come so it kick started the replacement process. My only leap/assumption from that point is that management decided to go through with it anyway because they rated Ming enough to not risk losing him next year. It's not that big a leap TBH, you may disagree with the decision making but feel free to give me another explanation as to why the deal went ahead? " I told the manager that I wanted to play for Liverpool and that Barcelona would only become an option for me if the opportunity arrived, like the rumours said it would, as it would be a chance for me to go back home. When it didn’t come I was happy to fight for my place so I was surprised that Liverpool decided it was in the club´s interests to send me to Napoli instead." I don't blame Reina or Suarez for that matter hedging their bets & keeping it vague so that if a better deal comes along they get it without risking their cozy position as is but I'm also not going to feel sorry for them when it doesn't quite go the way they want it to. That's the problem with Hedging your bets: neither event you visualized ends up happening. Reins didn't end up at Barca but hasn't stayed with us. So far, Suarez hasn't ended up Real and I'm not sure he wants to end up at the only club that have moved for him. There's no statement about not being able to say no to Arsenal is there? Either case, I don't care because they both saw us as a second best option. Something that will do in the meantime while they wait for the better deal. Well not at my club lads, toddle on.
You made up a scenario that inferred the club went for Mignolet cos Reina was on his way [more or less what you said]. I pointed out that Valdes had done his u turn weeks before we went for Mignolet. The leaps in your logic were in extending what I meant by that statement to - "So we should tease the Ming with a deal/negotiations then tell him to get stuffed for a year while Reina decides when and where he leaves us?" "Can you honestly see him (Ming) coming next year if we'd just walked away? And what way is that to show new players how easily we'll bend over? " When I never suggested or thought either of those two things. My only point was in correcting what a lot of people have been saying - fed by the lies in the media - that Mignolet was done and dusted and then Valdes changed his mind, when it was the other way round! That's all I was saying. You do know the lad's name is Mig and not Ming don't you.
What he said! I will always remember him for this moment above all others..... And maybe a bit of this...
