I'm sure Rodgers is trying to shift Downing. I heard that West Ham put a bid in for him but Downing rejected it because 'he wanted to stay and fight for his place'.

Rodgers did make some mistakes with Allen and Borini. However, I maintain that was pre-transfer committee days. Hopefully we can make less of these mistakes ...

Well the transfer committee didn't spot Valdes signing a new contract...they didn't tell Rodgers we couldn't afford competition for places....or did they? Judging by signings/events/missed targets so far this summer I can't see that we've learnt anything.

Honestly? We went out and did business very early on mate

So far I can only see that we missed out on Mikhi jkdgplernplfkjndplkfn. He joined Dortmund instead, very understandable

I want to see our signings for the first 11, maybe now we're back Liverpool things will get moving there a bit

From you earlier post Allen was good then was crap so he's got it in him, Borini injured (but if I had to put money on it now i'd say it wont work with him) so okay bad signings. Which manager doesnt do that?

Allen and Borini deserve this season to show us that they shouldnt be sold next year

So if Suarez agrees to go to Real next year do we bring in his replacement then loan him out to save wages?

I want a dm but Ive come to the conclusion BR might put Gerrard there

Hes got the capabilities imo but he also most def has something to give us going forward so I would prefer us to sign a DM!

Think we're settled on centre halves? Not sure about that but again, BR will live or die by his decisions

So far I think, since Jan its been a lot more promising

We have battered teams with our play when we've got going

I know what you're saying but Suarez is so much more important to us than Reina imo as we have someone, in br's opinion, who can come in and fill Reinas gloves

Now filling Suarezs boots, totally different

At least BR's not promoting Jones!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course new players need time which is exactly why we should have been building on last year not ripping it up and starting again....again. Ming may well take time to settle as well. If it costs us a challenge for top four as IMO last summers farce did then saving a few hundred grand in wages will seem like terrible business.

You could argue that Reina cost us a few points with some of his mistakes? Points that would have put us closer to the top 4? ...

IF all is true, this is another player who said he was "forced" out... Meireles was another that springs to mind. Wonder what it is behind the scenes?

Anyway, one of the best pound for pound purchases in the Rafa era or in the premier league era for Liverpool.

I think you are right on this... gerrard needs to preserve his legs and frankly he's got a great "role model" in pirlo here. sit back in, take it off the cbs and make the play.

if gerrard gets really quick ball (not people taking 5 touches then giving it to him) he can find sturridge and coutinho with his range of passing and set us on the attack much faster... thats my opinion anyway. If you are doing that kind of job why sit another guy in there as well. if you release another guy to get up and down like hendersn thats great IMO. I just think there's more to the game than lashing forward hoping someone else passes it to you.... lampard looks great but in reality his goals come from others making them. like cahill at everton he was never going to the top table without someone supplying him.

I think rodgers is signalling that he's not buying a CB, thats just my opinion on his comments.

I just think one pattern we could play is gerrard deeper, coutinho in the middle and sturridge right up top and then just play if fast where possible. possession and passing are great but if you've a guy wh ocan ping it to a guys toe form 40 yards use it. its not carra floating a hoof to torees head is it?

    Indeed you could mate

these hand full of Arsenal fans saying we are absolutely miles behind them and we should just give up and let them have Suarez on there terms as they're FAR superior (like we're some sort of charity) we were 12 points behind, 4 games ffs

and imo reina did cost us points last yr

Skrtel def didnt help and Agger wasnt all that but hopefully it goes without saying they'll be back this seaon

    I don't know.

benayuon as different in that it was rafa... meireles was comolli? its very hard to tie these together as the personalities in charge change.

We could say though that since comolli left we've seen players like maxi, kuyt, and so forth all leave and while all cases are different the one common denominator is wage. though we were doing this with cole jovanovic, aquilani and the like too.

Our average wage must be getting towards a much lower figure. While i simply won't agree with the method, or target in the reina case i have to say that if a strategy is at play and a firm hand is on the ittler then that is better than laxity and people doing whatever.... just so long as the IS A STRATEGY... and not opportunism.

I have to say yes reina cost us points as i was the first to call him on it and got slated.... however he also repayed those points i the second half of the season with some blindingly good saves.

Skertl cost us a few points too but won us some too.

    Agger cost us several...

Its a team game and the TEAM was in 12th in december that was a 6months of disaster.... frankly we need to see that and hope that rodger's second half and his signings are more like what we can expect than the summer where allen and borini arrived....

In reality no one player will cost you 4th its the preparation and team form. If we play better than where we were at and show progression when it counts (not end of season flat track) then we will be closer.

Equally arsenal could be disastrous too. who knows.

Without CL football, we simply could not keep on paying high wages (wages as a % of revenue was extremely high).

FSG have brought this down - rightly or wrongly - and there were always going to be casualties.

That could change! He's contradicted himself in the past <whistle>

You make some good points, Gerrard can certainly pass so lets use it then. we def dont need to be starting with 2 dms

patently no... thats the point. every case is different. In some kind of leeway to the guy if rodgers saw a chance to get what in his opinion is a top drawer player and it had to be done then ok but you must carry the guy cos you decided. you took a gamble barca was i, they were not so you jump at napoli and they are amazed you let them have the guy!

In suarez case if rodgers doesn't have a replacement ready then you beg suarez to stay... if real don't offer you've a hard call to make with arsenal... if he stays you do not necessarally buy unless you can afford too AND its different as you've 3 slots to paly the guy in... you can push suarez wide for the year and get a great year from him for example.

    Its all swings and roundabouts..

I would not have bought mingolet unless i thought i'd not get him next year post WC for example. In fairness there can be a lot of factors in the decision but again my ideal is one year of reina and mingolet bedding in. If that costs minger a WC slot eh shouldn't have bloody joined then should he!

Reina to napoli... rafa must be still pinching himself.
