I totally agree, look at Norwich aswell, obviously not in same league as Barca or Manchester U - but they've managed to keep their core players together right from League 1 into the Premier League. I think as a team we could take some inspiration from them in what they've achieved via a method that we probably aim to go by aswell.
Absolutely. It's managing that step up in quality to the prem (not getting ahead of ourselves quite yet) which is the tricky part, i.e. staying there. I wish Norwich and Swansea well, as they play progressive football (in my opinion) and are a good model to base ourselves on. We are fortunate in that we have some real quality already at the club and it will be interseting to see how the team evolves over the next couple of years.
Agreed...they're in so much debt that being a cost-conscious Championship team isn't really an option. If they don't go up this year, I'm guessing that they end up in administration.
The Tevez inquiry was pathetic. Oh, and I'm sure Nolan will be on miles more than 35k p/w. Double that I'd imagine.
Yeah but the good thing with us is that we've got money to spend on quality players when we go up be it this year or next.
I think it will be funny watching West Ham trying to fill that huge concrete bowl they're so keen to move into if they don't go up this season.
Think you'll find they move in in 2013 (unless the start of next season is delayed, and I haven't heard that it will be, the Olympics wont have finished come the start of the season - and then there's the time required for West Ham to undertake the development works on the stadium), so they do have next season to get promoted if they fail this season.
I was getting ahead of myself there wasn't I St Brendy although I don't think they'll improve the squad next season if they don't go up - I think going straight back up is their best hope of getting out of this division because the financial gap between them and the rest of the Championship narrows each season after relegation and the next 3 relegated sides will be in better shape.
Optimistic Saint "There is no God. There can be no God; it's ridiculous to think in terms of a superior being. An inferior being, maybe, because we, we who don't even exist, we arrange our lives with more order and harmony than God ever arranged the earth. We measure; we plot; we create wonderful new things. We are the architects of our own existence". If there is no God how can we arrange our lives with more order than he/she ever arranged the earth? I have no problem with God for it was he/she that ordained that Saints would forever and always be the South Coast's top side. There was a blip for a couple of years but we all know that natural order has been resumed now.
No one who is a Saint can doubt the existence of God. Our club was founded by good Christian men not a bunch of suspect brewers peddling the evil drink.
St Goodness, you've got way too much time on your hands if you're picking holes in the quote from my signature. I think the script for the film probably took about 10 minutes to write, so the dialogue might have minor incongruities. Glad you read it though
There is no God, only Le God. Besides, God [according to the testaments, can't remember which one] said, without belief, I am nothing. Well, I am of the show me category, although I'm quite satisfied that India exists, even though I've never been there. The reason I make the point is that Saints require no additional support, from a deity, to make them the top south coast football club. After a small interruption of a few years, they have resumed their rightful place in the order. I'm sure one day they'll issue an apology for upsetting the balance, and sending certain people into unbridled extacy or despair when it wasn't merited.
