Using technology is OK up to a point, but if you use it in the middle af a game to illustrate that the Referee (or his assistant) has made a total ricket, then no one is going to trust his decision making for the rest of the match. Best if the element of doubt is left open to discussion after the game, but as there seems to be little in the way of discipline against a Referee, that has had a bad one, nothing much is going to change. There are probably are not enough top quality Officials to afford the luxury of suspending them for a game or two to give them a wake up call, to give them time to think about how they are going about the task.
It is always annoying when yellow cards are brandished for goal celebrations, but aren't for a career threatening assault.
There is much to be admired about the Refereeing of our games but still a few issues that need to be sorted.

Still don't think it was a penalty, although I understand why he gave it. Other than that though, yes, it was the best performance from a referee in the PL I have seen all season.

It was soft, but in real time it looked a stonewall penalty.

Sorry joined in without reading previous posts. I am referring to Fonte's nonpenalty.

In the Mirror, it said it was too close to give as a penalty. Hand balls are rarer these days...we've been denied some over the last few seasons that would have been given five years ago..

Oh fan-****ing-tastic.

Think we (and I include Koeman in that) have to be careful moaning about penalties not given....I give you Targett against Chelsea. You have to just hope it comes out in your favour at the end of the season. The lack of decisions in our favour affect games I know, but it isn't the sole or even main reason our results are falling away. We are still playing attractive football, but we have lost our sparkle after a long season. I would suggest that is one of the hardest things to regain...you can't train that back into the team. We need a good victory to raise spirits again.

I'll raise you Fonte against City and Fonte against Newcastle... I realise that you couldn't do that yourself :)

Not the refs fault but is anyone else getting fed up with this magic foam ritual with free kicks. I feel it slows the game down and is particurly irritating when ones team is chasing the game. Typically free kicks in those areas used to be taken more quickly taking advantage of an element of surprise, although opposition players used to delay the kick by standing near the ball that could be remedied by yellow carding the offender (as could and should shirt-tugging at corner kick situations) Now the defending team is given the opportunity to get their whole team goal side of the ball and the game is disrupted to almost a rugbyesque degree disrupting the rhythm of the game.

Nope, not even slightly. I think the time taken for a placed free kick might have gone up from a minute to a minute and ten seconds (something of that order). Quick free kicks haven't changed a bit. But what has really changed is that more free kicks seem to be resulting in a goal as the wall is ten yards away from the ball rather than six or seven yards by the time everyone had shuffled forwards. It's made free kicks near the opponent's goal so much more dangerous. Unless Morgan takes it.
