Refs also shouldn't be so protected, never mind not being able to speak about them, managers should be able to give them a proper good shoeing during the game so the ref actually has a reason to get things right rather than do what he likes and take the spotlight. How many times did he get in the way if the ball today? ****ing. Useless. Prick.
The thing that's really starting to piss me off is the way loads of opposition players like to nip in front of a City player, suddenly slam the brakes on in front of the City player and then go down and the refs fall for it every single time. Seriously, if the rule is simply that anybody who wants a free kick can have one, why are we employing a referee?! Four times today Fryatt had free kicks against him simple for being the nearest player when the Ipswich lad fancied going down in front of him, it's ridiculous. I'd say it's the equivalent of pulling out at a junction, doing an emergency stop and then claiming whiplash when you're hit by the car behind.
The ref had a decent enough game. We could do with the FA removing this ban they've obviously placed on giving us freekicks within striking distance though. McKenna should probably have been booked when Delaney was for the lunge of a challenge he'd made in the build up (advantage played, we won possession, then broke and got the freekick), but as 3 or 4 Ipswich players took it in turns to tell the referee that before he'd had chance to even call him over if I'd been him I'd have decided to let McKenna off as well just to stop them doing it in future. Someone commented to me at the game today that my original post looked like I was giving him a pasting. I just used buffoon as a synonym for referee rather than about him specifically. The rest is just raw stats, and the key games were just the ones I thought people would be most likely to remember. Nostradamus has got nothing on me. He made his attempt at a shot ridiculously late and didn't even look like he tried to pull out of it. I'm not disagreeing with that, I'm just saying it's more a case of not booking the opposition when they should be booking them rather than booking us when they shouldn't. Just for the bold bit, where you there today? I couldn't believe anybody in the ground was complaining about the ref giving that. He booted the guy in the midrift attemting to scissor kick it. And then apparently there were people ringing into Blunderside insisting the ref was wrong because dangerous play is an indirect freekick not a penalty as though it was for a high foot rather than a foul. With the 3 for us: the Fryatt one wasn't. They were side by side fairly until Fryatt started. If Fryatt is going to start with a foul that doesn't work I'm not going to complain when in the same passage of play we don't win a penalty for the other guy giving it back but being able to do it properly. The McLean one at 2-2 should have been. McLean being on the floor allowed defenders to move across with the ball making the situation worse than it would have been if he'd not been fouled. The third one I don't have a clue what you're talking about so you'll have to refresh my memory.
