  4. Interesting situation should he be in tge job longer than six months but then we go in for him in say, eighteen months time if Rodgers doesn't work out. What would he do...?

First off despite what they say chelsea are not out of it as they play the group's no hopers next and shaktar play juve. If shaktar win then cheslea qualify 9/10 times. all the need do is win. if its a draw though... juve will go through.

match is even in shaktar so you still have to give chelsea some hope of qualifying.

on the other hand if Juve win then shaktar are in slight danger.. the results between chelsea and shaktar are even but chelsea i think are behind on "away goals" maybe as they won 3-2 at home and lost 1-2 away... not sure how that will owrk if juve win.

All in all shaktar will want to win so i think it'll be interesting.

I think rafa has a line up to ideally suit him, he's got the formation, the basic players but not the right midfield. He'll easily get 4th in the prem anyway so he could well last until this time next year with chelsea but the clash of egos means he'll inevitably get the sack.

Rafa will be like a kid in a candy shop if RA gives him money to spend in January. That said it will be interesting to see what type of players he will reinforce the chelsea side with if he does shopping.

Rafa will do well at Chelsea but will not last, i thought the whole idea from RA was that he wanted attacking football. Rafa although i love the man was not exactly geared toward free flowing attacking football. He is very similar to Jose in that being tight at the back is more important than winning 4 - 0. I can't see how he fits with what RA wants. But then again RA is very much like a petulant little child.

Rafa won't for one second suck up to Terry et al, in fact knowing how hard Rafa is towards his players, if Terry so much as looks at him funny, Rafa will try and sell him without a seconds hesitation, and same for any other player who may erroneously believe Rafa will give 2 ****s about their opinion.

Remember what he did to Reira and Robbie Keane, and Yossi and Itandje when he laughed at the memorial.

However, it could be this no nonsense cold attitude that he has that could end up with him failing. If he does fail it will be because he isn't prepared to be a lapdog like RDM was. Shame, as if Terry and the old boys just listened to Rafa and done what he asked, they would all learn something and end up winning more trophies.
If the old boys think this is another AVB scenario their in for a rather rude awakening.

The head of Chelsea's supporters group said that she didn't want Rafa because he "isn't a good manager" and he "fluked" a Champions League winning campaign on penalties. It's laughable, because she used the same reason (pretty much) to state why she liked RDM.

I have been a passionate Chelsea fan for over 50 years! In the last decade where I have been able to track my team through Chelsea TV and got to understand a lot of issues I wouldn't have been able to do years before! Tonight I watched the press conference of Mr Benitez on the back of his appointment as our "holding" manager. Having started the day in a terrible shock at the news of RDM, I then felt a bit wierd when later it was announced that Rafa was to be our new holding manager! It just didn't seem right! However, I have just watched his press conference on Chelsea TV and have to say he came across in a way that really bucked me up!

Tell me Liverpool Reds--Is he the business? Will he do right by us??

If you look at the Bentiez threads on our board, you will see that there is a lot of love and respect for Rafa both as a manager and as a man. There are mixed feelings about him joining Chelsea. However, I think all of us will agree that, having joined you he will indeed be trying his best to win every match for you.

    This^.

He'll have the inevitable new manager dip in form, and then he'll turn it around. By then his time will be up and you'll have your new manager, before seeing what Rafa's really capable of. Shame, really, in some respects. But, as an LFC fan, I'm happy he won't be at Chelsea long. <ok>
