    Yeah! Subway... finally something good!

Dunkin Donuts: vastly inferior doughnuts to their competitor Krispy Kreme.
Vauxhall/Chevrolet: Mostly crappy cars (sorry Vaux drivers!)
Standard Chartered: WHO?!?!? Yes, I know... they're big in Africa/Asia.
Warrior Sports: Maker of the world's ugliest clothing.

Subway: Finally someone worth sponsoring us. Vastly superior to all their competitors like Blimpie, etc.

I love subway! Don't go very often- but knocks the socks of BK, McDonald's etc. They sell footlongs for $5 in the US.
    (think that's about £3.50 to £3.75).

Trivia: More Subway shops in the US than McDonald's or any other fast food chain.

It's odd though- most of the Blimpie shops around me seem to be run by British Asian's living in America.

I didn't even bother mentioning Schlotsky's or Quiznos!

/ Quiznos used to be pretty good when you could get soup/sandwich for $5.

Mixed bag at Hardees. They're slow as crap! Some things there are good- other are very mediocre. They centre their advertising to the redneck crowd. They are cheap, super unhealthy, and oversized food.

Some of their food is pretty darn good though Their "thick burgers" on sourdough bread are pretty nice... used to eat lots of them back in my university days.

Same restaurant is called "Carl's Jr." in some places.

A dozen years ago (before they got bought out) they used to make the best fried-chicken of a fast food chain.

  8. Can't see how it can be a grey area. They have to satisfy the local environmental health departments and gain certification to be able to operate. The dody bit is that franchises are usually run by youngsters who don't give a ****.

That is all you need to get at Hardees/Carl jr.

    Krystals or White Castle?

    Ya Quiznos went downhill quickly.

Never been to either. See them when I travel but there is a void of mini-burger chains across South Carolina. None near me.

When I'm in the States I tend to avoid all the chains and use some of the wonderful diners that you can find scattered about.

Yes, there are some really good ones like that. Hard to find in some places though.

The problem is, the really good ones end up becoming chains eventually- and then their food becomes crap.

I remember when Zaxby's was just two stores local here in SE... they served some really good food. Then they went through some explosive growth- think they're all across the country now- and their food tastes nowhere near as good as it used to. It's crap now.

Not only that... but they knocked down some of their original really cool old restaurants so that they could put up these bland cookie-cutter shaped restaurants like they have elsewhere.

There is one Greek-family owned chain in Greenville that I love, Stax. They took a different approach- instead of expanding into lots of similar, equally crap restaurants they have different ones.

You have Stax Omega, their late night diner- traditional diner food and greek food. Stax Grill, their burger place. Then they have a seafood place, a steak place, and they have a 5* restaurant too.

    Loved all the Stax restaurants...

A submarine is a wide French/Italian style loaf. Like an obese baguette (shaped like a sub) - that is sliced lengthwise through the middle and made into a sandwich.

Good man. So many quality eateries around. Just go to diners drive ins and dives website and you literally have a map and it has all the locations.

The ****e that goes into all fast food varies from country to country. A Whopper in the UK is not exactly the same as it is in France or Germany and certainly not the same as in the US. You can't say that its any better or any worse - its just different.

In the London sandwich shops in the 70s the range of sandwiches was vast and made whilst you watched. My favourite was Liver pate and tomato on white and cheese and egg on brown. Quick, easy and tasty. I hate the inquisition that you get in places like Subway!!

    Surely not?
Subway is a shop that sells nudgers, not a bloody restaurant- let alone an undersea one.

Even some of the bars that you wouldn't expect to serve half decent food surprise you in my experience.

Found a few lovely spots on Route 1 down the coast, can't wait to go back someday
